Description
The Discovery Fossil Excavation Kit will develop a passion for science in young minds by making learning fun. The excitement of finding a new fossil and learning about its origins will provide hours of educational fun for young boys and girls. Dig for real fossils in the brick using the same tools as the professionals. Break through the rock with the chisel while using the brush to dust off any loose dirt and debris. Once unearthed, the magnifying glass will allow for closer inspection to help identify the new specimen. Every dig brick is different and unique so there will always be a new mystery to unpack. Leaves black residue everywhere, smells like chemicals. We had to throw it away pretty quickly and didn't finish finding anything.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was fun, but I wish it included a hammer with the chisel. We had to use our own. It was messy but that is to be expected. Also, the fossils were a lot smaller than expected. This is a great product for a kid that loves archaeology and fossils, but I’m not sure it’s worth the cost for a one-time use.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids, 10 and 8, had the day off school. We thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try out this excavation kit. They were both excited to try it! It was packaged well and they were able to set everything up themselves. We had to wet the block. The block itself is made of some weird black soot material. It does get messy and I’m worried the black may stain. So keep that in mind. The boys had fun digging at the block and uncovering the hidden fossils. Definitely helped pass the time and kept them entertained. The fossils the got out were pretty cool too, a little smaller then I had pictured but still cool. This is a great toy for bored or curious kids.

The mess is why I have it 4 stars BUT it kept my son busy!!! We are always looking for fun activities to do on rainy days or just something new, I highly recommend. I will be buying this again for a Christmas present for my nephew.

However, there were not as many fossils as I thought there would be for the size of the brick. All in all it was a fun project for the kids and they enjoyed it.

The Fossil Sig kit has educational value and seems to be a good value for the money. My child played with this for hours the first night of opening it and again after school the next day. I am looking for other kits to put on the Christmas list!

Came with a brush, little chisel & a magnifying glass. We got to check and learn about what we found and their appearance. So cool I will be getting more. Great fun for almost any age. Easy to do and clean up wasn’t to bad at all.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were excited to get this kit free to review from Influenster. Unfortunately this turned out to be a very messy activity. The instructions advised to wet the rock before digging for the “fossils.” This made the rock soft but also turned it into almost a charcoal like powder that stained my table, chairs and hands. The rock got everywhere and was tough to clean up. The “fossils” were a let down. They were very small and only 2 of the 15 looked like anything other than a rock. Wouldn’t buy this again.

It’s also important to note to definitely not use this on white countertops. I really struggled to get the gray dust out.
