National Geographic Gemstone Dig Kit

This was a fun activity for my 5 year old son! Kept him busy for a while and he would get so excited revealing a new stone each time! The product claims it is messy but it also cleans up easily.

It’s about the size of my hand. All the gems are very close together and not really that exciting to “dig” out. I would definitely pay the extra money to go to a local “gem mining store”. Mine was also missing one gem. For reference my kids are 5 and 4.

My children had such a fun time digging for the gems. We just put down a large paper and let them go to town. It kept them occupied for an entire hour and had fun showing them off after they cleaned them off.

My kids really enjoyed this but unfortunately it was missing some gems.

Bought this kit as a gift for my son. However, it didn’t come with the guide book, so disappointing!

They should write "Not Actual Size" across the box. They were so small. My kid is 4 so she had a hard time digging. This is a toy for a 6 year old. If they aren't going to put a full size geode they should put a picture of a small broken piece like the one they give you.

Much like other National Geographic dig kits, my younger sons (8 and 10) both thoroughly enjoyed the time breaking them up and cleaning their found treasures after a grest amount of effort was spent releasing them from the base medium. Keeps kids busy, they also enjoyed reading the included pamphlet. If your kids have enjoyed other dig kits, or you think they would enjoy one, this is definitely worth getting.

It’s a gift for my grandson but I’ve gotten similar National Geographic things before and the kids love them.

Tiny, lack-luster gemstones - the fools gold piece is no bigger than my pinky nail, only came with 9. Very upsetting

One thing I really loved about this kit, was that it is quite time-consuming. Sometimes these kits are a bit too easy and the activity is over before you know it. This kept my eight and 10-year-old entertained. It is a bit messy, and probably a better outdoor activity.

I received this product via get bullseye program. This was way smaller than expected. The block you get to dig into was very small. The materials it is made out of turns into a powder so it is extremely messy. The gems were also pretty small overall. Kids were slightly disappointed

My son and I really enjoyed this gemstone set. My son is 7 and at first I wasn’t sure how he would feel about learning about gemstones. He was pretty excited when he saw the box. He enjoyed the process of digging and discovering each of the gemstones.

My seven year old loved this! We sat outside since it does get a bit messy, and she did need some help getting all the gems out. Worth it! We were pleasantly surprised how many gems were really in here.

This was so fun! I did this with my 6 year old great niece. She absolutely loved it. We did it outside to minimize a mess in the house. The excitement of finding a gem and digging it out was so much fun. It kept her entertained for a while.

We have had this one before and it is always enjoyed by the kids. This time, I don’t know if we missed one or there was only 9 specimens into eh block. We ended up soaking the remaining pieces of the block to see if we could find the missing piece. My kids LOVE the gemstones that come out of the kit and it is a highlight for them to look at them through the spy glass.

My kids love these National Geographic kits. We’ve done the rock one a couple times and they are always so excited to see what kind of “gems” they might find. The kit always comes with and exciting assortment of stones and I love the card that explains each one. We turned it into a little matching game with my 5 year old. Highly recommend.

My six-year-old son absolutely loved this kit. I loved how you got the big giant rock and you had to chip away To get the stones. He loved being able to see how they appeared after putting the water on it. The stones are very pretty and he keeps him in his room for good luck.

This is so much fun with my kids!! They have loved it! These kits are perfect for rainy days or birthday gifts! I buy them anytime I see them to have on hand for all occasions! Great for girls and boys!!
