It's listed at 13" WIDE and 16" deep... it's actually 16" wide and 13" deep. Makes a big difference, especially where you have a pedal to step on to open it. The place or trash is has very limited space and I was looking for less than 16", but instead got something just over. Now it rubs against what is next to and the pedal is basically useless because it catches and you need to manually open with your hands.

The material that it is made out of is sturdy and the step to open the lid works well. I think this is a quality trash can and think it will last a long time.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 12 gal size trash can is probably the most common size kitchen trash can in use, and for good reason. It fits well in most kitchens and is big enough to get most households through a couple of days before "taking out the trash" and this Hefty certainly fills that bill. The trash container appears to be well built, but it is 100% plastic, including all the moving parts, which consist of the pedal, the riser, and the lid. I do not believe this detracts from the durability of the trash can as it has been my experience that when metal mechanisms are used in the construction of plastic containers, the point of failure, always seems to be where the metal attaches to the plastic. With every part being plastic, maybe the stress areas will be more evenly affected. The Hefty trash can also has a couple of design features I really like. There are two slots molded into the back side of the container portion to allow the trash bag to be rigged inside of, and clear of the cover lift mechanism. Although, consequently, in allowing the bags to fit tight enough to enable mechanism clearance, it does make putting the bags in a little more difficult, but then again, the bags will not fall in with the weight of its contents either. Another feature I like in on this trash can is the size of the pedal access area, It is large enough for me to open the lid even with my work boots on. This is important for me as work boots are what I wear most of the time. Overall the trash can seems very functional as well as not unpleasant in appearance.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Before the Hefty Step On Trash Can, I have never purchased a trash can by a company who normally makes garbage bags..is this a new thing or did I just not notice? This can was a great size and the step on feature gives me the ability to avoid germs which has become so important these days. The can was built sturdy and the step on mechanism worked well; I wonder how long it'll continue working. My only complaint is that I've had to dump my entire can recently because my bags are too weak and tear; this can makes that difficult because of the immovable lid. I've managed, it's just more difficult.

I love the fact that it is easy to conceal trash. It is a tad difficult to get the bag on and off as it is a pretty tight fit if you use the fitted garbage bags.

The size is great for our bedroom and the design is very sleek to go with our decor! Very easy to put together too! Large kitchen bags fit it perfectly! It's perfect for my home; it's beyond simple to use, and changing bags is just as easy. I've tried other branded "step to open" trash cans and usually they hardly work correctly and/or replacing trash bags is very difficult, but Hefty made a simple, quality, attractive product and I'm not exaggerating when I say "you'll LOVE it too!!"

I love the fact it has a pedal and so easy to push and the lid just pops right up and once you take your foot off it closes right away.

When I received it it was really easy to put together since the lid was the only part that needed attachment. I did that and tested it out. Let me say I was really disappointed when I noticed the lid wouldn't stay on the trash can properly. Every time I would go to step on the pedal the lid would just come right off. No matter what I did to get the lid to stay on it wouldn't stay. I kept the trashcan but put it in the storage as an extra trashcan.

I really love having the step on feature so I don't have to touch the lid when throwing garbage away or taking out the bag. So far the garbage can seems sturdy and accidental spills wipe clean.
