Q: I sleep with a fan for white noise, is it loud?

submitted by Paige - 4 years ago
  • A: These are not like prior versions we purchased and love for white noise. We purchased 2 recently and both were too quiet to serve that purpose even on full speed. Barely a breeze too.

submitted byBumSteer - 3 years ago
  • A: This fan generates enough white noise to cancel moderate fluctuations of noise. I have two . . I never thought I'd love a fan, but their design optimizes air movement AND adequately covers noise.

submitted byCate Currie - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. This fan is fairly quiet, and has been designed to be silent. It will not generate white noise. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.

  • A: Not sure what the other person is talking about, but I've been sleeping with this fan on me for at least 7 years. (The same one - I'm finally needing to replace it because the click adjustment mechanism has given out.) I literally cannot sleep without white noise or moving air, and this fan; s PERFECT. It generates consistent lovely white noise on high and blows a consistent cooling wind. I HIGHLY recommend it as a sleeping fan.

submitted byAshleigh - 4 years ago

Q: Does this help provide a loud enough white noise? Sounds silly, but plan on taking it to a hotel bc it's always so quite in the rooms.

submitted by Heather - 7 years ago
  • A: I would definitely say yes. I can't do white noise, I prefer a really quiet room and can't sleep if this is above the low setting. Medium and High definitely provide adequate white noise.

submitted byme - 7 years ago
  • A: Yes, have hung this in our laundry room for hanging clothes. I can hear it through the door when it is on high

submitted byDee - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry Heather. This fan was made to be 25% quieter than our previous fans. On low, this fan is very unobtrusive, but the higher speeds do generate some white noise. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

  • A: This was asked two years ago but I figured my answer may help someone looking now. I'm actually buying this fan (again) FOR the white noise. These things are workhorses and last for years. You can't beat the price!

submitted byChuck Orlando - 5 years ago

Q: How to remove grid grill cover to clean blades and grid grill; do not have user manual. I removed the Honeywell logo center of grill, but unsure to actually remove the grill

submitted by Mel63Ray - 6 years ago
  • A: The screws are tiny cross-head style that are set very deeply. The screws are super soft and strip quite easily. Other than the fiddly difficulty trying to remove the screws without stripping them, the fan is a great little air mover! When it seems like it's starting to slow down (it does slow down) it's time to take it a part and clean it.

submitted byHappyDayToday - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. To remove the front grille, lay the unit face down. Around the back edge of the grille will be a series of deep holes. At the base of the holes will be Philips head screws. Loosen these to remove the front grille. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

  • A: I have own three of these fans over twenty years. I unplug mine and run them under the bathtub's faucet. It gets them very clean. I have done this several times when they began to stall and not run properly. It appeared that the engine in the back became clogged with the fan's lint.

    submitted byDoug269 - 4 years ago

Q: Is it battery operated?

submitted by nanalin14 - 6 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. This fan is not battery operated and must be plugged into a 110-120V outlet. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

Q: what are the cfm and db ratings for this fan, please ?

submitted by RicoZ - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. We do not rate the CFM or dB of our fans. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.

submitted byManufacturer Tech Support - 3 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: I don't know the CFM or DB ratings, I can tell you though the new fans (900 series) "25% quieter" are indeed quieter but they also seem roughly 50% weaker than the older turbo fans (800 series)

submitted byJoe Sixpack - 2 years ago

Q: Is this fan quiet or loud?

submitted by Michelle - 5 years ago
  • A: It's pretty quiet. I've done several Zoom meetings with it running within two feet of me (on the lowest setting, which is pretty strong when you're that close) and I haven't had any problems hearing people or them hearing me (and I don't talk any louder than normal). I've also had two running at once on the highest setting for a whole room. My parents are in their 60s and have trouble hearing in some settings, but we were able to talk normally even with both fans running.

submitted byKathleen - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry Michelle. This is fan is 25% quieter than out previous table fans, making it very unobtrusive. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.

Q: How many watts of power does it use? Will it work with a 300 Watt Inverter that is plugged into my car's cigarette lighter?

  • A: We take this fan on our vacations all the time as we have to have the "white noise" or cannot sleep. Has three speeds to pick from. I own 3 of these and keep them in each bedroom for guests or just plain air circulation. Great little fan and a great price.

Buyer beware! PRICE INCREASE! This used to be $14.99 then they raised it to $15.99 and then to $16.99; now it’s $18.99! In 2021, I bought it on sale and only paid $8. So there’s NO way I’m paying $20 for this small fan that doesn’t even oscillate. Are they crazy??!!

    Much smaller than expected

    3 out of 5 stars
Kat - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
I will start by saying my husband really likes this fan, and it does put out a fairly nice breeze, though lacks any power. I know it's an inexpensive fan, and I shouldn't have expected much power, but still. This fan at full power is still weaker than my 20 year old fan at setting 1. I was pretty disappointed that it turned out to be so small. I looked at the dimensions under the product details and the fan should have been at least 11 inches. Under product specifications, it lists a smaller measurement which is closer to the true size. What was frustrating was that the answers given in the Q&A section seemed to indicate the 11 inch measurement was what I should expect. The build quality is okay, but definitely feels cheap, especially the little dial to change settings. One of the most aggravating things about this fan is the extremely annoying humming, droning noise it makes when on a hard flat surface, like my table. I have to put something underneath to dampen the sound and keep it lifted slightly to make it stop. I'm disabled and can't get to a physical store to see these things, so it's frustrating when the description of products aren't accurate. If I didn't need a fan right now (my old one needs to be repaired), and could could get to a store, I might return this. This will become my husband's desk fan when mine is repaired, and he will like it. For the price, it is fine. It does it's job, but isn't going to be the quality of fans made 20 years ago. It's very quiet, if that's a concern for you. Since it's called an air circulator, I was expecting more noise and was kind of disappointed since I use a fan to sleep.

Admittedly this is a cheap item, but failing after 5 months?? And this is the SECOND one I've had that failed/thought it was a fluke/relied on the Honeywell name. The joke is that if you turn it on and leave it for 5min (instead of giving up because it doesn't work when you turned it on), the motor MIGHT catch and start the blade. And the warranty is useless: from the Honeywell website: "Return defective product to Kaz, Incorporated with a brief description of the problem. Include proof of purchase and a $10 US/$15.50 CAN check or money order for handling, return packing and shipping charges. Please include your name, address and a daytime phone number. You must prepay shipping charges. We suggest having tracking or delivery confirmation..." So you wind up paying more than you paid in the first place. I've learned my lesson. Honeywell name is a scam.

This fan has a lot of power in a small package and works well, unfortunately it doesn’t work for long. I have bought this exact product twice and both times it has not lasted more than 3-4 months before it stops working completely. Because of that, I’d recommend getting another product that will last.
