Don't waste your money

This product does not last - Even though I purchased it in 2023 I had only used it a handful of times. I thought maybe I didn't leave it in the freezer long enough, but after leaving it in the freezer for 2 weeks it is still not completely frozen. I messaged with live chat who didn't care enough to help me, apparently once a product is out of warranty (even thought it was only used a handful of times) they could care less about you or the standing but the product they sell which is extremely disappointing because these mixers / attachments are so expensive. Don't waste your money on something that doesn't last. I will be looking into a different company that cares about its customers to help.

Love Kitchenaid products

I have had a previous model Kitchenaid ice cream maker for several years and I love it, however it recently started leaking a blue fluid from a factory hole. It still works, but is messy from this fluid (never dropped or mistreated). I still have and use a Kitchenaid stand mixer (30 years or more), so I’m going to buy a new ice cream maker (we love ice cream!) and hope it holds up as well as the mixer. I have other attachments and I’m super happy with Kitchenaid products. (Fail proof vanilla ice cream: 2 cups milk, 1 cup heavy cream, 1/2 sugar, 2 egg yolks, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Mix and add to bowl, low setting, for 25 minutes).

I work in the artisan ice cream industry and used this attachment (an older version) for years before buying a commercial machine. If used carefully, the KA attachment can make professional quality ice cream. The secrets are using a high quality recipe (preferably a professional one) and getting the bowl very cold. Which means turning your freezer temperature down, or using a storage freezer. You need to go to at least -4°F. -10°F is better. With the old attachement, that's about as cold as you can go. A friend who's a scientist has the new model and says it works fine chilled colder than -30°F! Colder is better, as long the machine can handle it. You want the ice cream to freeze as quickly as possible in order to get a smooth texture. The KA machine is better than most other home machines because the freezer bowl is massive. It just has more freezing power. And the mixer motor is powerful. The variable speeds are also handy, if you find yourself wanting to whip a bit more air into the ice cream toward the end of the cycle. I just wish they hadn't added those annoying vertical flutes to the new design. They serve no purpose, and make the bowl harder to clean.

Nothing To Criticize

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've owned two homemade ice cream makers previously, including a top, well-known brand. But none rivals the KitchenAid attachment. It makes the best by far: the most consistent texture; the most volume. I honestly can't find anything to criticize, only praise. It's well designed and engineered to work with my lift bowl stand mixer. It works perfectly. And in case you're wondering, I paid for my ice cream maker and have absolutely no affiliation to KitchenAid.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product worked fine but for the same price, getting a Ninja Creami makes way more sense. The bowl is too bulky and hard to fit in a freezer. Fine for a gift but wouldn’t buy it for myself.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love this attachment. I have used it to make 3 quarts of ice cream. Home made ice cream tastes so good. Only complaint I have is that with such a narrow space between the mixer and the attachment it is hard to pour the mixture into the cream maker. This means that some of the mixtures gets on the outside. Having some sort of pouring attachment would help. May be a funnel that you pour the mixture through. But overall I love this attachment!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Compact design, easy to use, and relatively affordable. Ice cream machines with frozen bowls are very easy to use. However, you need to prepare in advance for 8 hours to 1 day, and the freezing bowl also takes up quite a bit of space in the freezer.

Bowl won't freeze

I followed all the directions regarding freezing the bowl by leaving it in my freezer for 24 hours. Took it out the next day and could still hear sloshing and it wasn't frozen (all my food in my freezer is still frozen). I live in Minnesota and left it outside in the shade for 24 hours. Temps ranged from 22 down to 8 degrees and it still is not frozen. I do not understand.

I was so excited to get this ice cream maker attachment. I purchased originally in June 2023. My first attempt never got thicker than a bad milkshake. However, I reached out and Kitchenaid sent a replacement. The replacement worked well for about a year. Despite the fact that the bowl was stored in our spare freezer, it just wouldn't stay frozen. I lost 2 batches of ingredients before just giving up. I guess I wasn't meant to have homemade ice cream.

This is a great KitchenAid accessory, it was so simple and the ice cream came together so quickly in the bowl! Only took about 15 minutes, then we popped it in the freezer to firm up. Can’t wait to make lots of fruity sorbets!

Also it’s healthier for you than store bought. You can eat the ice cream right after the machine has finished or put in the freezer to ripen for a bit either way it is fabulous. We also bought one for our niece and her family and they feel the same way. Thank you kitchen aide for Wonderful product !!!
