Horrible bags. Do not buy them. Cannot open the bags without them ripping. Very cheap and poorly designed. I love the sustainability but they are not practical or even feasible to use.

I’ve been looking/waiting for a “green” zipper bag that did not cost a fortune - these are it. I typically despise buying plastic storage bags and only use as an absolute last resort (if only my husband was on the same page). Some habits die hard! I would cringe every time and try to wash them for reuse. The Matter bags are durable, stay closed and work just as well as the “standard” bags. Really happy that I found these - every little bit helps when it comes to our environment. This was a no-brainer, easy switch to make a difference. I’m highly please with this product!

The zippers on the bags are VERY hard to open. The bags tear, and if you do get them to open properly they're a pain in the neck to zip closed!

I don’t even want to give these one star. They are impossible to open without ripping. We use this brands gallon bags & sandwich bags & they open fine! These ones however literally will not open!

Expired batches will always rip

Okay… First of all, it depends if you get a new batch or old batch. These bags do have an expiration date! New batch is always awesome, works as should and doesn’t rip. Old batch (bags are usually colored darker), will always rip, unusable. Just return them to the store! I like these compared to the plastic ones because the nylon/plastic taste does not transfer to the foods that I pack in them for lunch. Eating a lot of plastic transfer can cause cancer.

Never had a problem opening these bags, but mine were in room temp and never got wet cold or hot. Works great for dry foods like crackers and nuts. Don’t expect food to stay fresh for as long (12-48 hrs depending on type of food)

Junk. These rip just trying to open them. We use their sandwich bags and love them so not sure why the quart bags are such poor quality. Really useless....even if you can still get one open after ripping, you can't close it again!

I was glad to pay a little more for compostable bags, but they can not open or without ripping and tearing. If you can get them open the first time, they definitely tear on the second open. I won’t purchase again unless they make huge improvements on the seal.

I don’t know what happened to this product in some kind of reformulation because I had purchased before, and it was fine. This (with new box appearance) is awful. The bags are closed as one pulls them from the box and then practically impossible to open! I’ve ripped most that I have managed to open, making them unusable. Do not buy!

I agree with the other purchasers of these bags that they are impossible to open w/o destroying them. I feel bad that I wasted money and the entire box of these things because they are unusable. :-( We've bought and used the garbage bags of this same brand, so I thought the sandwhich bags would be goood as well, but they are not usable. I wish they were better, since I'm a big proponent of recycled/compostable things!

These bags are impossible to open without tearing the grab liner or tearing the bag open. I tried on 20 bags all with different techniques and delicate attempts to no avail, they are simply not durable. I also noticed the box says to use within 6 months of purchase... by biodegradable I expect the product to last a few years before degrading into harmless and inert materials, not right in front of your eyes. Clever idea but it's clear that plastic has won this one unfortunately, for the time being until better materials are brought to mass market, that last for years and don't break instantly.
