Q: how do you clean them to reuse?

submitted by retireme2017 - 3 years ago
  • A: Wash with cool/moderately warm water, and mild soap, then rinse thoroughly. Then let air dry. Do not attempt to clean in the dishwasher.

Opaque but great for the environment

I really want to give these five stars - they are compostable! Made from plants! Work great! Have fun facts about taking care of the planet! Our only issue is that they are opaque - we can’t see what’s inside them!

I'm excited to use these compostable bags rather than using plastic. I compared the size to my standard plastic gallon bags and they are the same. The compostable bags feel different, but are flexible and seem just as sturdy. I put some bread in the bag and compared it to a plastic bag that I also put bread in and I could faintly smell the bread through both bags. There is a note to "be gentle with the seal" of the compostable bag when opening, but I tugged on it a bit and it seems just as sturdy as a plastic bag.

I've had no problems using these. They feel much thinner than regular baggies, but seem to work just as well. I've not noticed any of the contents going bad sooner than expected, so I'm gonna say they work just as well.

These compostable gallon bags are really good. The zipper seems to be reliable, even when held upside down. I love that they are compostable and will breakdown in my compost. I have tore it apart and put in my countertop composter and it has worked well.

I love using these storage bags. They’re easy to seal and the seal is tight, keeping food fresh and safe from freezer burn. I love the fact that they’re compostable, as opposed to other brands that will end up in a landfill.

These bags make you feel good about doing something good for the environment. They are sturdy and I did not feel like they would rip. I like that they have fun facts on them to further remind you that you are making a good choice for the environment. Overall, good quality.

Compostable bags

These bags seemed to work just as well as the more traditional plastic zipper storage bags. We typically use the gallon size to marinate meat. The material is a little thicker and has a slightly different texture which actually helped to make the bag not as slick as others. The bag worked great for the marinade and the seal stayed in place so there was not any leakage or excess air.

These bags make a great alternative to regular plastic bags for some uses like leftovers, etc. They’re a bit thinner than other bags, so when using marinades or shaking for breading, you have to be careful not to tear the bag. The only other issue is that my kids didn’t like the opaque bag because it was hard to see what food was in it.

These compostable ziplock bags seem great. They are pretty sturdy which is different than other compostable bags I have used. The ziplock seal stays well. I am not sure how well they break down in the compost so hopefully they do well. These bags will be great in our composting adventures!

Matter Compostable Gallon Bags - 20ct are a really nice quality bag. This is my first time using compostable bags and i really like these. The bags are made nicely and hold foods well. I use it for foods in the fridge like veggies and I feel a little better throwing it out now knowing it will help the environment.

Commercially compostable

These compostable bags are so cool! They are made from plants, and BPA free with no added PFAS. They are more thin than standard plastic bags, but hold up just fine. They are commercially compostable only, and I don't live in an area with composting services, but I like that they're a more earth friendly alternative.

The Matter Compostable 20-Gallon Bags are a solid eco-friendly choice. Not only are they earth-friendly, but they’re also surprisingly durable and reliable. I tested them with leftover spaghetti, and the bag held up perfectly—even with the weight and moisture. One thing to note: for best results, they should be used within six months of purchase. That’s not an issue for me, but it might be for less frequent users. Still, if you’re looking for a sustainable and sturdy bag option, I’d definitely recommend these.

If money were no object I would purchase these bags every single time. The quality is great (the zipper works, and the bag performs as expected), and the ability to compost makes me feel so much better about a single use product.

These are recycled bags. I really like the concept of them. They are very thin feeling compared to other bags that are not recycled. They are shockingly very sturdy. I was a little nervous at first based on the thin feeling. But i was wrong with my worries. They hold up just as well as other ones.

Breaking It Down For You

These are such high-quality bags! I think I'd subconsciously expected decomposable bags to already begin breaking down before you're done with them, but nope! Going solely on the feel and the strength of these, you'd simply assume they were very nice storage bags.

Great for gathering compost in the fridge!

These bags are great! I love being able to throw all the bits and bobs from fruits and veggies in a bag in the fridge. It has kept the smell in and we’ve been slowly filling it. I like that it doesn’t take up too much space. I haven’t tried it yet actually throwing it all in the compost, so we’ll see. Even if it’s not something that composts well or quickly, I still appreciate how we can use them in the compost process!

These bags are just fine as the new replacements for regular plastic bags. They have the feeling of those produce bags that rip and snag BUT they’re much thicker than those pesky grocery store ones. I filled it with hot sink water and it held up good in the sink when I tested it out. I also turned it upside down and it didn’t spill out. Yes it leaked a drop or two but same with all zip lock baggies. I hate that there is so much Info printed all over them though. I’m not knowledgeable about composting so not sure if these are supposed to go into a compost bin specifically or you can just throw them out in the regular garbage bag and they’ll decompose.
