NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Starter Metal Detector Kit for Kids with 7.4" Waterproof Coil & Trowel

This is a great beginner metal detector. It took us a minute to figure out that it had to be calibrated before use. Once we did that my son was off and running. He had a great time searching the yard and using the included spade to dig his treasures.

I really recommend the National Geographic Starter Metal Detector Kit, my daughter spends all day trying to find treasures in the backyard, it's very entertaining, she also uses it when we go to the park, it's waterproof, excellent quality, it's durable, it's perfect for children to use without any fear of breaking it. It's very easy to use, it's light. I like to see my daughter's happy face when the metal detector makes a sound that it detected something, it comes with instructions that explain very well how it works.

Great little metal detector for kids. Easy to put together, it took less than 2 minutes to assemble. It doesn’t come with batteries so make sure to have some on hand. The detector also comes with a small shovel for digging up treasures found.

My son had a birthday a few weeks ago and I wanted to get him something I knew he would love. I wanted a gift that let him use his creative side and still learn too. The National Geographic Metal Detector Starter Kit was his favorite gift this year! His entire face lit up when he opened this gift. We have a few acres of property and he wanted to get to work. The starter kit comes with the metal detector, a trowel, and the learning guide. The metal detector itself is very lightweight and he was able to use it for quite a while without complaining of weight. It does allow you to adjust the length and has a power/volume control for ease of use. It does require a 9V battery. We took it into our field and found all kinds of fun treasures! It did take him a little bit to figure out how low he had to keep it to the ground. The best part about this toy is the interest it has sparked for history. The instruction manual comes with some neat facts about Archaeology and Metal Detecting. After we had read through them, he immediately asked to learn more about the history of treasure finding and wanted to know the scholars and what they found. It is always hard to find a new, exciting toy for children these days. This really exceeded all my expectations. The quality and excitement of these toys will last a long time in my house!

This is a cute metal detector for kids. You can adjust the volume of the beeps and it seems to work over metal, but I also feel like it beeps at times when there isn’t any metal. It is lightweight and the arm rest makes it comfortable to use for longer periods of play. I wasn’t expecting it to be perfect, so I say it’s worth it for the kids to play around with!

This would make an awesome gift for any kid. It's super easy to set up. But I do recommend that you read the instructions on how it works with your kids and demonstrate it that way. They know how to use it by themselves. My kids were outside for hours. Of course not finding anything of value, but they had a great time. Treasure hunting.

My daughter has always wanted a metal detector. She was so excited to try this! She is 13 yrs old and assembled it herself. Super easy. It does take a 9v battery which is not included, so plan accordingly. She is 5'6 and its a good height for her. We took it to the backyard where we hid some items and she was ble to find it! It comes with a little shovel which is awesome. We cant wait to take this out into the world to see what we can find.

Back when my kids were really little I bought them a metal detector. I hid coins in a kiddie pool and let them go at it. They loved it. This one is much nicer, a definite improvement. It's lightweight and collapsible. It extends far enough for my husband to use. It comes with a book of instructions that also explains the science behind how it works, it's history, and a code of ethics. I like that purchasing it helps the National Geographic Society.

My kids are so excited to bring this to the beach! It comes with a shovel but I’m going to grab a sifter tool. I’m 5’6 and I can still use this comfortably and so can my kids. Please note this requires a 9v battery

This metal detector is amazing for young kids to explore and have fun finding treasure!! It works great for young kids to use on the beach or in a grassy field. This can keep a child busy! The kit also includes a trowel to use on the beach to dig once you find treasure!

To start, the assembly is very easy. It’s already mostly put together and you just unfold it and lock the middle bar into place and attach the arm support piece. It is not heavy but the arm support helps keep it steady since the coil must be parallel to the ground to work properly. It is durable and feels high quality. It requires one 9V battery (not included). When we turned it on inside the house it kept beeping but this was due to electrical interference (the guide does indicate this can happen). Once we took it outside it worked like a charm. I hid a quarter in the grass and my daughter was able to find it. The coil is waterproof but not the entire thing so don’t submerge it more than 4” in water. It comes with a trowel for digging up found items. The trowel is a a heavy duty plastic material suitable for kids to use to dig. The book that goes through the assembly steps also includes some really good information about how metal detectors work. Good learning for both myself and my kids! There is also a detecter log in the booklet so they can document the objects they find. Overall a really cool experience and something they will be taking on camping and beach trips. They absolutely love it. Thank you!
