Q: I have used this product on an ant pile recently and white powder substance still is present after 3 days. Is this normal? And can my dog be around it since it had been days?

A: Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 is designed to release the active ingredients and not dissolve in water. The white substance you see, granules and the remaining carrier, will disappear over a period of several weeks under normal weather and watering conditions. Once the dust has settled on the ground it is ok for dogs and cats, to enter the area.

Q: Hi, I purchased yesterday and used for the first time. I know bottle says to stay away until dust goes away. My son likes to big hunt in the area where I had to use product? What would be a safe amount of time before he can bug hunt there again?

I have used Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer for the first time and am really pleased with the results. It is easy to use and works just as described. I had many fire ant mounds and beginnings of mounds in my yard this year and now all are gone! I will continue to use this product as other fire ants try to move in to my yard in the future.

Someone suggested this to me to get rid of a cockroach infestation that I have been fighting for years with all kinds of bug bombs, different chemicals, different at home remedies and nothing worked I put this down and within a day the number of roaches that were dead was amazingly high and every day now less and less or alive to where I’m only seeing babies and they are dying this works top notch for cockroaches. It’s embarrassing to say, but I pick them up from somebody else’s house when I was visiting them did not know they were in my bag, and I have been fighting them for years. This product did it it has helped me become sane again.

I sprinkled this product, my yorkie loved the taste of it and it unfortunately eneded up killing her. We are very sad about this, and now our family has a void. We wish that I NEVER had bough tthis product and the lable should actually state that may cause death to pets if ingested. Be clear about the results of animal ingestion, they are family! Please make this foul tasting for animals!

I work in a warehouse in an industrial complex. Nothing but concrete parking lots and buildings for a 1/4 mile in any direction and somehow the fire ants got under the threshold of my office door and had invaded my office. I should have done this as i was leaving work for the evening and turned off the AC and worn a mask. Anyhow, The smell lasted an hour or so, but instantly and for the next few hours the ants were dying. Back to work on Monday, no smell and tons of dead ants everywhere.

Love this product. I’ve used it for 10 years or more. It kills Fireant mounds quickly, while many other products just cause the ants to relocate. I learned long ago not to use it against the walls of my home. If mounds are against your foundation, sprinkle a small amount an inch or two away from the foundation. Make sure water or rain won’t wash it against your foundation. It really works great - just be careful to use it in a manner to keep the oder away from your house.

I watched a friend of mine who was infested with bed bugs apply this product to bed mattress and box spring. He sprinkled it on the carpets and living room area furniture and it eliminated the best bugs.

Burned the grass all around and did NOT kill the ants. Have used before with good results and no grass-killing, but this cannister completely burned the grass slightly wider than the product actually touched. And did absolutely nothing to the ants.

I SWEAR by this product. It is the ONLY thing I use for ants. It is worth EVERY single penny spent. I found this a few years ago in TX and I've used it since then. The powder aticks to the ants and they take it back to the queen. It doesn't just treat the surface like most insecticides. This year for our garden I sprinkled this on the rows BEFORE we planted anything so that the soil would be ant free. We have a fairly large garden. I've only had a treat a few traces of ant, but i havent seem any hills in 2 months. I have to treat some hills this weekend that are outside the garden. This will be how we plant in the future.

Best ant killer! I place bait around my house of various food the consume and the let the ant feast. Once the food is covered by the ants I put the Ortho powder on the bait and within a few hours the and their nest is gone. I use bacon for carpenter ants and honey for all others. It works. You have periodically (about once a month) apply it as soon as you see ants. I use gloves, gloves and eye protection when applying the powder. Hope it work all you.

I bought this and used it Sunday.. woke up Monday with a rash that continued to get worse and spread to my whole body.. after a trip to urgent care, a steroid shot and a prescription for oral steroids it has finally started getting better.. please be careful using this.. At least it does work in the ants.. and the smell is HORRIBLE!!

This product is effective on fire ants, but it does the manufacturer does not warn on the label that the main ingredient, acephate, must not be used on vegetables. While treating nearby ant mounts, we accidentally got Orthene on a large part the newly seeded vegetable garden. Now we dont know when, or if, we can grow vegetables in that bed again. If a yard type product is dangerous to some types of plants, it should be clearly marked.

I put this on 6 mounds and they are still all active. I put the amount it said and did not water it in. The water in kind is better I think. And this stuff stinks like crazy. You better have a shed or some place to store it. Its bad.

When I started buying it about three years ago it worked and didn't have any issues it killed them and didn't come back. But I know quit buying it . The price has went up and there is way less in the container and it seems to not work. The ant come right back and doesn't kill them as fast. The stuff has been changed or something different but not worth the money.
