Q: Does the boundary need to make a circle or can it go around the perimeter of a yard and not complete a loop?
submitted by MB - 1 year ago
A: The boundary will need to make a complete loop for the system to function as intended. If you need layout assistance, please reach out to our Customer Care team directly at 1-866-738-4379.

Q: If my dog leaves the fence and ignores the original warning/shock, will the collar shock her when she comes back as well? Also, will she continued to get shocked when she is outisde of the perimter?
submitted by Maegan - 3 years ago
A: Thank you for your great question, Maegan. The receiver cannot tell what is "inside" versus "outside" the wire. It activates when it is close to the wire and picks up the signal. Therefore, if your dog goes too far past the wire, the receiver collar will stop activating. When your dog then tries to come back into the containment area, the receiver collar would activate again.

Q: what gauge is the wire
submitted by Dolores - 3 years ago
A: Thank you for your great question. The fence comes with 500 ft of 20-gauge copper wire.

Love the option for expansion!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is great because it gives our dog more space and freedom than the regular fence. We love that it can be expanded to give him more space if we need to. It didn't take him long to learn the boundaries. I like that the shock can be adjusted too. We were nervous about the electric fence because we didn't want to hurt him. However, our dog seems more happy now with space and freedom than he did before.

Great off leash boundary to train in

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so happy to have received the PetSafe basic in-ground fence. It’s great to finally let my dog off leash in the area and not worry about them running away. There is a wire transmitter that is installed indoors to give it power and signal for buried wire. The buried wire runs from the transmitter to your boundary that you create. It came with a waterproof color which uses batteries. There are 4 different corrections levels plus tone for training. There are temporary training flags to help the dog and you visualize the blundering during the training period since it takes time to get used to. The package came with 50ft of wire and dozens of training flags, if you wanted to expand you would need to purchase additional wire. But what I have is perfect for my current backyard.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with us! We're so glad to hear this fence is working well for you and your dog. In case this information is helpful, this fence comes with 500 ft. of wire; this will typically cover a little less than a half acre. If you need to cover a larger area, you can add compatible wire to cover up to 5 acres.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the ability to customize this inground pet fence. You can add additional wire to expand coverage and also have more than one collar at at time if you have multiple pets. Safe and effective on cats and dogs. It took some work to install but nothing too difficult. The collar is waterproof and the battery lasts about 2 months.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My pups love the freedom of the fence. The installation wasn’t too bad, fairly simple. Training the dogs took no time at all and the fence has been extremely effective at keeping them where we want them.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We couldn’t be happier with the PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence! Our energetic dog used to constantly test the limits of our yard, and we were always worried about her safety. Since installing this system, we’ve had complete peace of mind knowing she’s safely contained without the need for an unsightly physical fence. Installation was straightforward with clear instructions, and the adjustable boundaries allowed us to customize the space perfectly for our yard. The collar is lightweight and comfortable for our dog, and after just a few training sessions, she picked up on the boundaries quickly. What we love most is how reliable the system is. Rain or shine, it works flawlessly. It’s also very affordable compared to other containment options and offers great quality for the price. Provides great range, our yard is pretty big but still allows great service Highly recommend this to any pet owner looking for a safe, effective way to give their dog freedom while keeping them secure! My pet absolutely loves it as you can tell from his photo and we love it too! No headaches anymore

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This invisible in-ground fence from PetSafe was exactly what I needed to keep my dogs out of my garden. The setup was quick and easy—especially with a little help from my husband. The only concern I have is with the receiver collar. My dogs are pretty clever, and the collar fits a bit loosely, so I’m worried I may need to replace it soon. I also plan to purchase a second collar for my other lab, who’s more active. That said, once we had everything installed and let one of our labs into the yard, he quickly learned to stay away from the garden. Overall, I’d recommend this system to anyone looking for an effective way to create boundaries for their pets

The fence works great as long as the receiver collar stays on your dog. Had a problem with the receiver collar coming loose and falling off. The last time it fell off I didn’t realize it until it was too late. I now have to buy a replacement color for my him, because it came loose and fell off of him, and he proceeded to chew it up!

Not at rated power

I bought this as a replacement but it doesn't give the same power as my older units. We have 2 acres and this model does not have the power to do more than a ft from the wire. I had ordered another assuming the one I had was defective, but the replacement was the same. It does not cover the 5 acres as advertised. I put an older model in that does cover the 5 acres well one, that claims 25 acres, but the 5 acre model sucks.

We're sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your system! It is crucial to mention that there are many reasons collars may not activate at the wire other than a full break in the wire or a transmitter issue- there could be partial breaks, signal interference, layout incompatibility issues, etc. We do apologize for any misunderstanding. So that we can troubleshoot with you and determine what's occurring in your specific situation, please contact our Customer Care team here- https://support.petsafe.net/ Our phone hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. We had the wireless system for 10+ years while living in the Virgin Islands. Huge yard / no way to fence. Quigley, our Pitt bull, chiahuahua, chow mix, was a hunter. Super smart. He responded to the collar in a snap. He actually had 2 collars. One for home boundary and one for our walks. If I forgot his collar on a walk, I’d just call his name and shout “ beep, beep, beep”! He would be at my side in a heart beat.

I bought this as a last resort and man how i wish id bought it first. We have 3 dogs. 1 a very pigheaded pitbull ( 18 mo) that likes to test us at every turn. 1 German Shepard (4 mo) who is way to smart for anyone's good as she can open all our doors and gates. And 1 Cane Corso Doberman mix pup so far he's a good pup but he's only 7 weeks old. We have tried everything to keep the other two in ( 8 ft chain link. Hot wire. Adding an inward incline at the top. Burying the fence.) but they always found a way out. We installed this fence 3 days ago in about 2 hours and have already introduced the dogs to it. Our gsd is already steering well clear of it. Our pit on the other hand is being more stubborn about it his color is is set at max and he is still trying to run through tho he bring himself back inside the barrier very fast once he crosses it. So if you have smart stubborn hard to contain dogs. Just get it. You wont regret it.

We. Installed the fence over a weekend. The most time consuming part would be digging the trench for the wire, but my husband used his edger and the job proceeded quickly. We did purchase about 10 bags of topsoil to cover the wire. I recommend doing this.

I installed this system about 2 weeks ago and, have done some light training. I first tried the wireless system but, it had issues with coverage and dead spots in my yard. I have a miniature Daschund and I have found that she quickly learned the boundaries almost to the point of being gunshy of going out into the yard. Probably my fault. The other system zapped her a few times and, now I'm going to have to back off and work into it more slowly. We had a problem of her running off and paying absolutely no attention what so ever to our calls, scolding or going after her. Very frustrating, and dangerous to her going across the street not to mention also my wife and I get very tired having to go after her!!!!! At this point with only the audio she will NOT cross the boundary wire! Good for us and safer for her! Right now she has a problem with going out in the yard but, in time and as we work with her I'm sure she will regain her confidence. The system was fairly easy to install, took me about a day to do it right. Toughest part I had was going across the 24ft driveway, several years ago I put caulking in the expansion joints and it was pretty tough to clean it out. Had to go about 6" at a time. I did mine above ground and, I did opt for 14ga wire, the 20ga that came with the system was way to flimsy. My choice because I like to do things thoroughly with no problems when I'm done. Used almost 500ft of wire and about 160 yard Staples. Barely visible and I can mow over it with no problem. I think this system will do the job for what it is intended to do and way less expensive than having a fence put up. I didn't want to fence in my whole property at all. Just going to have to work more with the dog and, after awhile I'm sure she will feel at ease with going out in the yard. My wife and I will not have to worry about her running off and being injured when we are outside working or relaxing in our patio or deck. Pet Safe is what it means and what it will provide. Safety.
