  • Baby controls the pace of milk, just like breastfeeding

Description

Philips Avent Natural Response nipple lets baby control the pace of the milk, like they do when breastfeeding. The nipples' unique opening and tip only releases milk when your baby actively drinks. When pausing to swallow and breathe no milk flows. Baby can drink, swallow, and breathe using their natural rhythm, just like they do when breastfeeding. Easily combine breast and bottle feeding with a wide breast-shaped nipple with a soft feel that mimics the shape and feel of a breast; plus baby controlling the flow of milk. The nipple has a no-drip design which helps prevent lost milk from the tip. An anti-colic valve integrated into the nipple is designed to reduce colic and discomfort by sending air away from your baby's tummy. The Natural response nipples come in flow rates 1-5, to keep up with your baby's growth. Use Philips Avent Natural bottles only with Philips Avent Natural nipples. Includes: 2 Natural Response nipples, flow 3. SCY963/02

What to expect when introducing the Philips Avent Natural Response Nipple:

-It's totally natural for your baby to take 2-3 tries to get milk flowing from a new bottle. Unlike traditional bottles the Natural bottle is designed to only release milk when your baby is actively drinking, like what happens when babies breastfeed.

-We have 5 different nipple flow rates for the Natural bottle. When looking for the right nipple flow rate, age is a guide, but your baby's approach to drinking and the feeding cues they will show will help determine when to move to a higher or lower nipple flow rate.

Q: Is the new design intentionally slower flow than the old design for Flow 3 nipples? New design seems to have an air relief on perimeter but flows a lot slower than old design flow 2 nipples.

submitted by SlyG07 - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello! Yes, bottle nipples are usually designed with only age in mind. However, the Philips Avent Natural Bottle with Natural Response Nipple creates a personalized feeding experience by focusing more on the baby's drinking behavior than only on their age. Every mom has a unique milk expression rate. If moms are breastfeeding, we recommend to start using a breast pump to measure their unique flow rate to understand which nipple size will best suit your baby's drinking pace.

This is one of our favorites: from birth to last bottle. It's easy to clean but hard to differentiate between other Philips nipple types. There wasn't much nipple confusion along with little gas.

The best if you are breastfeeding. Nothing truly comes out unless baby sucks, just like with breastfeeding. My baby’s style is to suck for a bit and then stop and catch her breath. These are the only nipples that allow her to do this and not have any milk leak and make her choke. Love, love, love these!

Discrepancy Amongst their Instructions and Nipple

The nipples should be a size 0 according to their leaflet and their website write-ups. The nipples in the package are a size 1 which is supposed to be for the packaging of 0m+, not the 0m. The discrepancy continues through.

Nipples rip! Beware!

1 out of 5 stars
RMcClantoc - 2 years ago

I got the flow 1 and 2 for my newborn. He couldn’t get ANY milk out. Feeding times would take 30 minutes to an hour and he would just give up. So I got the flow 3 nipples and they worked great. However, all of a sudden my son refused to eat. He would act starving and then would go to suck on his bottle and then scream. We thought this was because of teething. Come to find out the hole for the nipples on EVERY nipple we purchased were ripped. As in the hole was MUCH larger than it was supposed to be. Now it makes sense why the milk was running out of my sons mouth and he was so frustrated. We thought it was an issue with the formula and maybe he didn’t like it. No. My poor baby was literally drowning in milk and he was spitting it out because of that. And no we didn’t notice till later because literally EVERY nipple has ripped. It would be easy to identify if it was just one bottle that he didn’t like. But since it was every bottle we had no idea. There is absolutely no reason for why this should have happened. We take very good care of these bottles and we clean them regularly after every use. We clean them very carefully and hand wash them and put them on a drying rack. These nipples should be recalled immediately. I can’t imagine the amount of stress this is going to cause new parents.

Don't waste your money, switch brands

We used Advent bottles/nipples for our first kid and were planning to as well for our full term twins (no medical issues or NICU time, same size/development as a full term singleton). The old nipples no longer exist so we bought these, the closest to what they used to have. Neither of my kids now can use them and we've tried different flows. I tried to get milk/water out of them manually and they DO NOT WORK. My kids can breastfeed fine AND can use the other random bottles we ended up trying we were given and have been buying a different brand now. While I loved these products, they are not beyond useless.

My Baby Loves These

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Philips Avent Natural Response Baby Bottle Nipple Set, Flow 3 through the Stellar Product Testing Panel. My baby is a breastfed baby and she instantly loved these nipples. I had no problems transitioning her from breast to bottle. The nipples allow for a steady flow and they don’t have any leakage. I’ve tried other nipples and my baby would spit up after each feeding. She has yet to spit up after using Avent Nipples. It’s also a HUGE plus that they are so easy to clean! The only thing I wish that were different is that the nipple would be larger to promote a deep latch when breastfeeding.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The nipple shape is awesome for my baby! Originally when I tried this bottle with my little one at five/six weeks, we couldn’t find a good match as the lower flows were too low and this one was too fast. Now that he is 3+ months, this works great! Love the feel and ease of cleaning. Baby also was able to feed well which a hug plus. And no nipple confusion! Baby is able to go back and forth from this bottle to breast! Huge thanks to stellar panel for letting me try out this great product for my growing babe!

No drip No mess No loss

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Baby and mommy approved! We loved the no drip slow flow nipple. We've had so many bad experiences with other nipples that could leak and lose precious breast milk that this Philips system was a savior, easy to use for parents and grandparents and other caregivers, no leaking of gold liquid. Baby could drink slowly to avoid regurgitation and hiccups. Nipple part is an easy two-piece combo for easy cleaning and boiling. We got to try this with Stellar Reviews and got a complete Philips Avent bottle kit as a baby shower for a friend! The only downside? I wish the nipple ring size was compatible with pumping bottles to avoid pouring expressed breast milk.
