Not unlike some of the other folks, I purchased and applied as directed, watered consistently and am seeing very sparse results almost 4 weeks later. I am not happy with the way this product has performed. My conclusion is that sometimes you get a good batch and other times you don't...inconsistent at best...not worth the money or time I put in...Will look to other sources!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. Please note, for this seed mix, which contains tall fescue, ryegrass, and kentucky bluegrass, soil temperatures must be at least 55°F for grass seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be above 65°F. This Grass Seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80°F range. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. I bought a bag of Scotts Turf Builder, sun and shade mix to reseed an area of our lawn that had been heavily walked on in the spring. I carefully prepared the area, raked and loosened the soil watered until the soil was moist and tilled in some lovely compost/topsoil. I over seeded the area and kept it moist until the rains started 2 months later. So far not a single blade of grass has grown. The ground temp was ideal and I followed directions to the letter. I am hoping something will sprout in the spring. I will have to try another brand of seed if nothing grows from this expensive purchase!

Hi Stally. We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback. You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions. It will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. For this seed mix, which contains tall fescue, ryegrass, and Kentucky bluegrass, soil temperatures must be at least 55°F for grass seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be above 65°F. This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80°F range. In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in Canada. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating. Weed control product used on new seedlings will kill seedlings. Do not apply a weed control that is registered for lawn use to new grass until it has been cut at least 3-4 times. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I purchased and applied this product (seed + fertilizer + conditioner) Sept 7 to 4 small sunken areas in my yard after filling them with fresh top soil. After watering them every day for weeks, all I have gotten is a few small blotchy areas of grass. The temps have been unseasonably warm in central Iowa too over the past month. I would have thought after getting a product with all 3 essentials plus sowing in fresh top soil that is over 3" deep, it would have produced a thick lawn. Nope! Completely disappointed in a name brand that should deliver the best product. Looks like the name is just a name now. Don't waste your money.

I put this product down 6 weeks ago on Cape Cod, MA. Combo of sun and shade. Prepared the soil by raking with a steel rake to loosen the thin areas. Watered daily for 25-30 mins. Have seen ZERO new grass so it is no more thick than before applying product. I just applied a competitor’s patch repair product to hopefully fill in bare spots.

8 weeks ago we removed all our existing grass, roto tilled our yard raked all dead weeds after we had killed everything in our soil. 3 weeks ago we bought this product applied it along with a layer of one inch quality top soil. Grass started to grow, but half of our yard is Johnson grass! So disappointed, and no out top soil has no seeds as I still have 3 yards so ting on my property and nothing is growing out of it . Now I have to start all over again! I have no idea how to treat this without loosing the grass I believe I planted. And feel I have to pay a landscaper to redo all off my work. Very dissatisfied and throughly disappointed in this product. My lawn is worse than when I wanted to replace it !

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. When applying grass seed to new soil, you want to make sure that the new soil is mixed in with the native soil by at least 2". Mixing thoroughly to avoid creating a distinct barrier layer between Scotts Lawn Soil and the native topsoil will allow grassroots to expand easily for more vigorous growth. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. Our front lawn was looking terrible over the winter when deer trampled it into muddy bare spots. My husband was angry and thought it would never recover. I used one bag in April, applied with a hand spreader and despite heavy rains and continued daily deer visits, Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade has turned our lawn back into a thick green oasis! All of our neighborhood lawns are brown and dry, yet ours is green and healthy. We have a huge lawn and I plan to purchase more in the fall to treat other areas, the price makes it affordable.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. It is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore it's not possible our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into area prior to grass seed becoming established. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers.
