    Poor germination for expensive seed

Bought and applied to lawn following the package directions. Very poor germination rate. Watered daily for three weeks with poor outcome. Very disappointed with product. Overseeded with Pennington seed and had much better germination without watering daily. This is not the first time using Scott’s products with poor results. Either they have poor quality control or as selling outdated products.

3 weeks and 4 days, that's how long it took the grass to grow to 3 - 4 inches long. We did not cover with hay or anything else. We did water it twice a day the first 2 weeks and then once a day. It is now 5.5 weeks and we have cut it once. To those who have not had good results watering too little is likely the problem. We did 30 - 40 minutes twice a day at first, then 30 - 45 minutes once a day. Local conditions, Drought, temperature mid to upper 80's day low 60's at night. Ground conditions medium to heavy clay. Major re-sloping of back yard to achieve proper drainage.

I put a weed and feed triple action and barely killed the crabgrass killed a little bit of what little grass I have I wanna cry. I oh that we will have some nice weather until the end of October at least however this is New England. You never know. I have spent so much money on this yard and now I’m spending more in my yard doesn’t even look good

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. It is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free, in fact The Scotts Advantage states weeds are removed from our crops by filtering Scotts seed 3 times. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore it's not possible our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds. Soil amendments such as manure and straw often contain weed seeds. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into area prior to grass seed becoming established. We recommend that focusing on establishing the lawn first; weeds can be controlled later. A healthy, thick lawn will ward off most weeds. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I purchased this product two months ago to fill in some bare areas. First I applied 15 bags of Scott’s top soil raked it in and applied the Scott’s grass seed. Watered it twice daily for three weeks and the grass was growing nicely. As time went by, the grass appears to be turning brown and dying. My existing grass looks fine.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. Depending on conditions and the seed type, the grass can take from 7 to as many as 28 days to start to germinate. Germination requires air temperatures consistently above 65 degrees F. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used around the time of seeding, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

    Rapid Weeds

I bought this product for our family grave plots. The product did grow a little quicker than the regular grass seed did, but it was also 40% weeds coming up. Planted plots with brand new soil, Scott's garden soil. None of the plots nearby have these weeds. Can only conclude the rapid grass product was substandard. All I do is weed crabgrass, and the grass that did grow tends to dry out, with sufficient watering. Being over 70 years old with degenerated lumbar discs and bad hips, the humor of this situation has not been appreciated. And to think you charge double for this product than for the regular seeds. Extremely disappointed!!

bought 25 lb bag of your "ez seed grows anywhere" What the bag implied was that it grows grass. I'm 87 years old--planted 3/4 of the bag on composted soil about 3ft by 3.5 feet--used lots of the product--NOT ONE BLADE OF GRASS--PLENTY OF GROUND IVY THOUGH. Now this little part of our lawn I took such good care of has caused much anger as I fear the ground ivy will infect the rest of the lawn. I dug it all up just now. will never buy scotts again. If this is a joke, this 87 year old woman is NOT AMUSED!!!It's crap!. Pennington's from now on. SHAME ON YOU--NOT FUNNY! It's all in a leaf bag going to the dump-where it belongs

I took my chances- some said wait ‘til early fall, we don’t plant grass in the WI summers. I was warned about watering 3x a day when those 80+ degrees roll in. So … I planted 1/2 the area needed, covered it with straw, have been faithfully watering (yes sometimes a 3d time). I’m going into my 3.5 week and the growth has been VERY gradual (not as fast as the blend made it sound) and spotty. I knew I’d be completing the area in early August, but if I knew then what I know now, I’d save my time and money.

I live in Florida and I bought this product a month ago, set my sprinklers to water twice a day but the seeds will not germinate. I dethatched, sacrificed, and raked everything up to ensure I have seed to soil and contact and fertilized with Scott’s 3 in 1 but still nothing. Prior to this, I bought the thick r lawn for the front yard and it did not germinate either so I tried this for the back yard to see if it would be better but of course, it did not. I'm very disappointed with Scott’s product this far.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback. Temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Southern seed types (bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, bahiagrass, etc.) need soil temperatures of at least 70°F (21°C), with air temperatures in the 80's or higher (21°C or above). Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low nighttime temperatures. Very hot weather will also inhibit seed germination. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

    Terrible dandelion weeds

I bought two bags of this 2 months ago and sowed it in my backyard. My backyard was clear of weeds and was having black mulch before we turned the soil ready for sowing. But after sowing, in a week dandelions started to grow rapidly as if I was sowing dandelion seeds instead of grass. A few grass popped up too but now my backyard is full of dandelions and it looks terrible. I went through the ingredients in the bag it says .1% weed seeds but my bags had 90% dandelion weed seeds. I need compensation for this mishap. I used half from both bags and I still have half left in both of them. I have pictures and videos of the backyard before and after use.
