Q: Can we use in Florida in lawn having St Augustine grass

submitted by Vicky - 10 months ago
  • A: Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix should be used to seed or overseed tall fescue lawns only.

Q: Does it work in San Francisco East Bay… city is Dublin, Ca… hardiness zone is 9

submitted by Target shopper - 10 months ago
  • A: Hello, yes, Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix can be used in Zone 9 area (NorthernCal/Bay Area). Tall Fescue is a very versatile and durable grass type that is well-suited for many California climates due to its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in both cool and moderately warm temperatures. It can stay green all year with proper fertilizing maintenance.

Overseeding with Rapid Grass Tall fescue

It has been 10 days since grass seed was put on lawn, no signs of growth, used Scott's lawn soil and have been watering every other day. Can't wait to get me water bill! Weather has been decent in western Pa.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix and appreciate your feedback. You should begin to see germination in 6 to 14 days under ideal growing conditions. Germination times on label are based upon the grass type in the bag that will germinate the quickest. Soil temperatures must be at least 55° F (+12.7° C) for grass seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be over 65° F (18.3° C). In the spring, it takes a lot of consistently warm temperatures to warm up the soil. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination, but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Weed control used prior to seeding, such as using the crabgrass preventer, will prevent seed from germinating. Weed control products, like Weed & Feed or liquid weed controls, used on new seedlings will kill seedlings when they first germinate. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I must say I'm baffled by some of the negative comments, pertaining to this grass seed. I've used Scott's Turf Builder Rapid Grass Seed for multiple years and I've been, immensely satisfied. If you do all the proper prepping prior to,overseeding or reseeding along with watering twice a day you will have advantageous results. Without a doubt. Be sure to cut grass super low, scarify, aerate and used Scott's Starter Ferterlizer and you'll be set. Love this grass seed! Can't wait to use it in September!

Six days after planting I’m seeing grass seedlings popping up, but even more heart shaped sprouts. I’m not certain what other seeds were in this mix, but it doesn’t look like grass to me. I’ll give it a few more weeks to see what develops but as of now I’m disappointed.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix and appreciate your feedback. It is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free, in fact The Scotts Advantage states weeds are removed from our crops by filtering Scotts seed 3 times. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore it's not possible our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds. Soil amendments such as manure and straw often contain weed seeds. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into area prior to grass seed becoming established. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I live in Northern California SF BAY AREA planted in March 2024 spring time when Temps were from 60 to 70 degrees F during the day and 40 to 50 degrees F at night after the rains had slowed down followed the directions and tilled the lawn spread the seed as recommended covered with layer of peat moss and it sprouted in about 7-10 days!!! Had a issue with gophers but used traps to keep them in check... I also used Scott's 3in1 fertilizer because I over seeded the lawn it also will kill crab grass and dandelions clover and weeds to help the seed take over and out-crowd the unwanted greens etc. I believe if u follow the directions and use some peat moss and till the soil u can achieve good results... so many variables but if u are detailed determined and dedicated it Will work!

    Grows fescue and rye grass

I bought this last fall. Planted it then also. It came up and made it through the winter. However, every place I planted it in the yard now has annual rye grass growing in with the tall fescue. So I’m not sure why it is showing up only in the areas I used this grass seed. I have lived in this home for 18 years and have never had rye grass in my fescue. So my only conclusion is there was rye seeds in the tall fescue blend. So I’m not to impressed with the seed. I now have a bit of a mess.

I love this! Goal to have more lawn was very successful. Prepping was worth it. Previous owners had a small above-ground pool. I prepped the area by scraping away all of the fine gravel by hand, and then blending in top soil and garden soil. Watered every day. Also used on an area that had a significant slope - moved a lot of soil from that too. I am so pleased with my work. Don’t skimp on prepping, seeding and daily watering.

It's been 2 weeks since I seeded the lawn. I had germination after day 7! We have sandy loam here in southern Oklahoma. Very important to follow the directions. I spread the seed, covered with thin layer of pine needles (we have many pine trees) and watered twice daily.

Had to regrow the entire backyard after having my septic dug up. Prepared the soil, laided the seed, covered with a light layer of straw, watered 2x daily and we had grass by day 5! Grass continued to fill in until the whole yard was covered. Very happy with this seed and would recommend to everyone!! I think if it isn't working for you, you aren't following the directions!

This product has all the fertilizers in it to make grass grow within a few days. I had laid seed in affected areas mixed with rapid turf builder and within a few days had grass growing very good. A++ would recommend to anyone.

Planted in northwest Kansas in mid April this year, grew in a bit spotty at first but has since filled in almost completely. I think its very key to evenly till your dirt, I used Sun Joe electric tiller twice on the lawn area. Also I wish I did a better job of watering evenly, as I feel it would have helped it grow more consistently. Over the seed has done great and held up through the dog and a few hail storms so far! Also have the same seed growing in front about a month behind.

I watered the seeds & followed the prep instructions so that if it didn't grow I could blame Scotts. Thank you Scott's for finally helping me get a nice lawn.

It will be interesting to see what will happen during the heat and humidity of the summer since this product claims to protect against it. So far so good.
