Back to the Roots Organic All-Purpose Potting Mix is a great soil for herbs, veggies, fruits, and flowers in pots, in the ground, or in a raised bed or container! This soil blend contains all-purpose plant food to help grow bigger plants*, dolomitic limestone to adjust pH, and yucca extract (saponin) for moisture control. Our All-Purpose Potting Mix is peat-free, meaning that instead of imported peat, the base of our soils is made from upcycled plant matter and wood fines. Q: I'm repotting a lot of houseplants, would the regular potting soil or houseplant potting soil be better. The regular comes in a larger bag but is it better to get the houseplant specific bag?

A: I recommend the potting soil. I’m doing outside work too and thought I could sneak by with top soil. I did use the potting soil last year and preferred it for pots.

Q: Do you think this is a good organic soil for cat grass? My cats are picky and don’t approve of all soils.

A: Hi Chy! Yes, our Organic All-Purpose Potting Mix is a good choice for both strawberries and peppers. It has a neutral pH, which works well for most plants, including these two. Strawberries generally prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 5.5–6.5), and peppers do well in a pH range of 6.0–7.0, so this mix provides a solid base. Just be sure to provide plenty of sunlight and consistent watering for best results!

Good to use for fruit and veggie seeds
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just used this potting mix for a school project with my daughter to plant some fruit seeds. It is dark and feels rich and healthy. I live where the soil is hard, slick, red clay so this is great to mix in for better health and growth, plus to lessen the compaction of my soil. I am not a fan of the chunks of wood now found in potting ‘soil’. I don’t want mulch in my top soil or potting soil. It makes it hard to use in small pots with my indoor plants because it’s chunky. I hope my seeds will do well with this soil. I used the remainder of my bag to fill in a low spot in my yard which I see the consistency of this mix working better for! I’m sure the grass will be extra green in that area come spring.

Versatile and good for retaining moisture!

I watered the plants after and the soil held the water well. Picture shown is from the next morning after planting so you can see the soil is still moist. It was very loose soil without clumps. I’m excited to use it for my other houseplants but also in my vegetable garden!

The bag the soil comes in is very durable and rolls up nice and tight. Im able to roll it up and keep it fresh until my next use. The consistency was very rich and dark, and my plants seemed very happy with it. That will definitely be buying soil from this company again.

I like that it has peat in it, it seems like that hard to find in most universal souls. I like that I can use this in potting, my garden or raised beds.
