I have nothing but positives to share regarding this one. The build is a fun combination of Technic and traditional features. The resulting build is more technical than traditional sets but did not feel tedious to me at all. The mechanical aspects (wings, landing gear) are so awesome to see and operate. The finished ship is very sturdy and I'm not worried about pieces falling off just because something brushes against it. The inclusion of 8 figures is delicious icing on the cake (Baron Harkonnen is hilarious, Bravo designers!). This is a fantastic value and comes highly recommended. More like this (specifically Dune!) please.

My daughter and I were really excited for this build…. Then we opened the box. First the QR code to register our set was completely smeared and unable to scan to register it which kinda stunk but not a huge deal. There were multiple missing pieces (thankfully we have a large collection to pull from, minus the set specific pieces), pages missing…. correction, pages printed out of order, and crumpled cape for the Baron (we lightly ironed to get it slightly better). Overall it’s a cool set and was fun once we got past the multiple issues we had with this set. Pretty disappointed in the quality of this set though.
Worth the investment

This was a super enjoyable set to build. You doubt whether it will all work when you are half way in but by the end the technic elements work perfectly. I loved the movie and I loved the build. Well worth the investment!
So so much fun

Honestly, one of the better and more refined sets from LEGO. Extremely unique and well integrated technic system for operating the wings. Easily one of my favorite sets, but with one major flaw. I prefer to keep the wings extended on display, but over time, I have noticed that the plastic is starting to give and they are beginning to sag. It looses its sharp display look when you’re looking at uneven wings.
Awesome built with a caveat

It's a harder build, lets just get that out of the way. Not for children or those without patience. Building the internal workings sometimes takes a few tries but never to the point I needed to but it down and walk away for a while. I'm always amazed at building these kinds of sets watching in awe saying "how on earth is this going to work out" but it does.;)

A very satisfying build with amazing mechanics inside. A brick is pretty much a rectangle and yet they manage to get 8 wings, acting in unison, all at different angles, none of them 90 degrees. Must have been a tremendous challenge to create. But they did it. One of the better builds
Great display set

The set looks amazing when finished. Minifigures are great too. Some bits of repetition on the wings but its expected.

I don't usually write reviews, but I have to for the Dune Ornithopter as it is absolutely incredible. The designer of this set is an absolute genius. There is far more Technic than I thought, but the way it is applied here is phenomenal. The build was extremely fun but concentration is definitely required. I said "wow" a lot when building this set. Overall this is great value with superb minifigs and the finished vehicle is extraordinary.
Exceeded all expectations

My husband bought me this as a gift and I really loved building it. It's quite tricky in places, which added to the interest. Very Technic heavy. The wings have great movement to them - flapping and retracting. The landing gear has a very satisfying motion. I was very impressed how like the Ornithopter in the film this is. Highly recommend.
Great Representation of the Ornithopter

This is a great looking set. The bonus is the moving/folding wings and retracting gear.

More than any set before, I looked forward to this. Then I built it. There are core design flaws, both technically and aesthetically. Technically, the wings on one side droop. I have looked at other peoples sets, and they all seem to droop on one side. I swapped the blades and same result. Rechecked the build, same result. I can only assume a design flaw in the piece itself. The wings do not flap well at all. Again, in several videos it can be seen that the rear wings struggle to flap. Aesthetically, the cinematic ornithopter is gorgeous, however, the beauty of this set has been significantly sacrificed to allow for technicality that has unnecessarily taken over the build. It looks like a bolted together junkyard version. And to add to the insult to its appearance, red parts on show. Why red!? They are hideous, and a pain to replace once the craft is built. Extremely disappointed in Lego, the ship, and the loss of a potentially beautiful set.

Was extremely disappointed in the overtechnicality of this set. It ruined a potentially great addition to my collection. I relegated it to being thrown back in the box. A single mistake undid hours of work.

This build is amazing. Let's get that out of the way first. The techniques and mechanisms were quite interesting and very enjoyable to build. But the set has a few issues. The biggest issue I have, is that all the new wing elements came warped. They all bend to one side. And they all bend the same direction. This is fine for one side of the craft as it is somewhat hidden by the natural give from other components, but on the other side it is accentuated by the same give in the mechanisms. The second issue is that this model is peppered, once again, with technicolor technic axels and technic pins. It really stands out in a build that is mostly monochrome.

This is a very challenging set to build. The instructions are clear but the mechanism that flaps the wings does not seem to operate correctly. It was only by reviewing other review sites that I realized that my construction was probably correct. I wish there was some way to stand the mini figures such as an extra Lego flat piece. If you don't have a flat surface they won't stand up. Still a challenging build but needs a lot of space to display.
