Loved this product the first one came damaged but Target took care of that by fully refunding the purchase. My grandkid loved playing chemist and creating. I would definitely recommend and would buy again.

Did not work, crystals never fully dissolved in the water so no large crystal formed.
Add way more water

The instructions aren’t meant for this size. If you only add 8oz then the mixture won’t dissolve. So our first attempt was a failure. We’re on our second attempt and used at least 2x the amount the instructions say. It seems to have dissolved this time and hopefully we’ll get crystals. The smaller kit worked great but it also said to use 8oz and the mixture was about half.
Wrong instructions provided for giant crystal kit

The wrong instructions were provided for the giant crystal kit. As another reviewer in December of 2023 said, it seems they have a generic instruction manual in this kit. If you follow the instructions provided it will never work. My son was quite disappointed but we made the best of it. Added more water and used bigger containers. Hopefully something grows.
Christmas and Birthday gift were a flop

So disappointed and embarrassed. We bought 3 kits to give to our oldest for Christmas and as a birthday gift for her best friend. We are a homeschooling family that really enjoys experiences and learning gifts. We followed the directions to a T and after 30 minutes of continuous stirring the crystal mix never dissolved into the boiling hot water. We tried calling the customer service number and left a message but have yet to hear back. We actually turned it into an experiment of our own by extracting the liquid from the solid goop and in the end had 200ml of dyed water and had deduced that only 15g of the crystal powder had “dissolved”. After Christmas we found out that the recipient of the other crystal gift had the exact same experience. How embarrassing! We had high hopes for National Geographic to produce gifts we could be proud of. Sadly our giant crystal growing kits were just more trash to be recycled.

Incorrect instructions

This did not work. As another reviewer said, the instructions are incorrect. You would need a larger container and more water than the instructions state in order to complete this activity. The crystal powder will not dissolve. A larger mixing spoon should be provided as well. (I couldn't use one of my wooden spoons because it would have been dyed.) It seems that the company simply used the same instructions (amounts and all) from the regular size crystal growing kit. So in the end, my child was disappointed and I had a mess to clean up even though we followed the instructions as written. I will be returning because this thing cost more than just a few bucks and it was a Christmas gift.

This giant crystal growing kit was fantastic! The kids had so much fun and had a super exciting time preparing the kit on their own and watching the crystals grow. This encourages their love for science and lab. They had hours of fun watching the progress and growth.

This was a fun kit to use! The instructions are easy to follow and my kids enjoyed mixing up the ingredients. I wish we had received a cup or bowl to grow the crystals in, but thats okay, we just cut some solo cups down and used those so we could grow all the crystals at once. We are still waiting for them to fully develop, but so far they are looking good. The kids check them daily to see how big they are, so it's kind of a fun way to spend a few minutes together talking about what we observe. I would definitely recommend buying this for a fun gift for boys or girls!

Giant Crystal growing lab kit includes both a purple and blue crystal powder growing packet, two plaster seed rocks, one wooden spoon, 1 magnifying glass, one blue calcite specimen and a learning guide. Both of my children enjoyed growing their Crystals with this kit, instructions were easy to understand. Will look into purchasing more National Geographic kits for my children.

The Giant Crystal Growing Lab was a successful experiment. My kids, 9 and 10, enjoyed preparing the experiment and watching the crystals grow. The water was colored, but we could still see the crystals through the glass. We let them grow for 5 days in large glass measuring cups and had good results. Crystals also formed in the glass, and I'm not sure how to get them off.

Fun and easy project to do with my kids since we have all recently gotten into crystals. I wish the crystal points were bigger. Also the points are very fragile. We had gotten blue and purple. We are going to go get the green one and try a different technique this time.

My 10 year old and 6 year old had a really good time with this activity. The instructions were easy to follow and it wasn’t messy. They both enjoyed watching the crystals grow. It does take some time. They have added other activities from this brand to their Christmas Lists.

My kids had fun working the kit with dad, they were very excited and engaged to do the project. The instructions are easy to follow even though there was a pouch with a rock that was not listed on the booklet and we don’t know the use of it… It’s a science project that requires patience, our crystals are still building up and we can’t wait to see them fully formed!

Such a wonderful learning tool for my school aged kiddos! They loved helping put it together and watch it grow all while learning. Great hands on project for kids, not messy and gives them something they can do with minimal adult assistance.

Great for older kids. My 10 year old loved this set. Her and her dad bonded over this. The crystals are so pretty and instructions were pretty easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this set and would be interested in similar sets. Had a blast!

The instructions were very easy to follow. My kids are pretty inpatient when it comes to waiting. But, it worked really well. I would definitely buy it again. The colors are also so nice and vibrant. The mixture was super easy

My son and I had a great time doing this crystal growing kit. It was pretty easy to do the experiment and it was amazing to see what they looked like after a few days. There were a few different crystals that you could do. And it even comes with a booklet that explains the different types of crystals. This was a lot of fun for us to do and learn about together.
