Q: Do you have to use screws to put this up ?

A: Thank you for your question. The Stairway Secure Gate does require drilling holes into a solid surface, such as a wooden stud, to install. It cannot be adapted to be a pressure-mounted gate. Any gate being used at the top of stairway should be hardware-mounted and not pressure-mounted as a pressure-mounted gate can be dislodged with enough force.
