Q: Does the door swing both ways?

submitted by KSH - 5 years ago
  • A: It swings both ways! Super convenient.

submitted byApril - 4 years ago
  • A: Yes, it opens both ways.

submitted byRaul - 5 years ago
  • A: No it only opens one way

submitted byThogan - 5 years ago

Q: What is the size of the gate opening?

submitted by ndgilly - 5 years ago
  • A: what is the size of the gate opening???

submitted byPatty - 5 years ago
  • A: The Model #1163WS has a door opening of 16 inches wide.

submitted byPhil - 2 years ago
  • A: Does this baby gate have the self-closing feature?

submitted byRW - 6 months ago

Q: What is the width of the mounting brackets

submitted by Sue - 6 years ago
  • A: It varies on how wide the space is you are mounting the gate. You twist a knob on each bracket to tighten/loosen. I’ve blocked a door that was 35 inches wide and one that was 40 inches wide. However the closer you get to the max width (41.5 inches) the more wobbly the brackets are

submitted byThogan - 5 years ago
  • A: I have a 39 in opening and I could not get the gate to work at that width.

submitted byGeorgiaDawg - 1 year ago

Q: What amount of force would be required to break the gate off the wall? Let's say a toddler ran straight into it at full speed. I've had tension shower curtains come off the wall by merely closing the curtain.

submitted by JayMeek - 6 years ago
  • A: No a child wouldn't be able to knock the gate over it is held pretty well by brackets

submitted byCody - 8 months ago
  • A: Hello, it depends on the child and how much force they are able to exert. If you install the wall cups that will help to prevent that from happening.

Q: What size are the pressure screws, are they a 8mm or 10 mm I have. Miss placed the once’s that came with it and need to replace them.

submitted by CMC - 7 days ago
  • A: They are 8mm.

Q: Does this come with screws we have a concrete wall and was looking for a gate that will just got against the wall but has a door that opens at well!

submitted by Kris - 1 month ago
  • A: This gate does come with screws for the wall cups. We do recommend installing the gate as stated in the instruction book.

Q: Does the gate need to be mounted in a doorway/against stud or can I mount it against drywall?

submitted by Andrea - 1 month ago
  • A: Yes it can be mounted in a doorway/against a stud or against dry wall.

Q: One of the threaded spindle rods seems to go right into the corner of the gate without screwing, which prevents the tension required to keep the gate in place. Is it stripped/defective?

submitted by newmom - 3 months ago
  • A: They slide in the holes, they do not thread or “screw” into your gate. You will need to turn the grey adjustment wheels that are on the metal threaded spindle rods counterclockwise, so essentially, they will move closer toward the gate and farther from the rubber end. As you turn these, they will thread onto the silver spindle rod which will create pressure and close the gap in between the latch. You want to make sure you continue to turn the grey adjustment wheels until your latch almost meets the other side. If you have gone too far, you will know because your latch will not be able to operate and then you would need to just loosen the grey adjustment wheels slightly. Please make sure you turn the wheels on all 4 sides, so the amount of pressure is distributed evenly throughout the gate.

Q: Is there a lock on this gate? Sometimes we are not able to slide the lever back on the top after pushing the button. Wondering if there is a lock somewhere that we are accidently engaging??

submitted by Amy - 3 months ago
  • A: No, there is not an additional lock on the gate. It does sound like there might be a manufacturing defect and we would recommend that you reach out to Regalo at service@regalo-baby.com for assistance with this issue.

Q: Can you use the tension gate above the baseboard? Would be 4 inches above the floor.

submitted by Michele - 5 months ago
  • A: We do recommend that you install the gate flush with the ground as it could pose a trip hazard otherwise.

not sure why others dislike or if they unfortunately got defects. instructions were a little confusing at first, but i took my time and got it done. very easy to set up by yourself! my door opening was 29.5” and it was a little snug trying to get it in the doorway at first, but i got it in, tightened the side pieces, and it was perfect. its so convenient and the door can swing open or out, whichever you want

We purchased an assortment of baby gates from Target when our baby started crawling as we anticipated all sorts of shenanigans would follow shortly (we were right, and the baby gates certainly limited the mischief.) In the end, most of the gates were as advertised and while each has its quirks with installation/size/extra parts/ unlocking mechanisms, they are all pretty similar and all were functional for our needs (sometimes with a bit of finagling. This was about 2 years ago. Most of the gates have come down. This one is still up. In fact, I just pulled the extension pieces out of storage to move it from the hall bath to outside the kitchen; I prefer this gate to the one that is there. Reading other reviews, I seriously wonder if they had some bad batches or re-wrote the instructions or if people just have never installed a tension-based gate before… Yes, it will not close/latch when you initially put the gate in the doorway. It requires a lot (and I mean A LOT a lot) of tightening. It will close. Line it up and keep turning and voila! This gate has been up for 2 years. I have a rambunctious 40lb toddler and an excitable 110lb dog (and a partner who can get distracted by various sporting events). The gate hasn’t fallen down (3 of 5 purchased DID fall down, often repeatedly). And while the kiddo has a vague understanding of how the gate opens, she cannot actually do it herself. (Another positive to multiple types of gates: it takes longer for kiddos to work out opening them. A negative: it takes longer for adults, too) Only (sort of) negative for me: The gate is quite noisy if latched without pulling back the locking mechanism (ie you just push it closed). It is fairly quiet if opened/closed with the latch disengaged. All in all, when the gate is installed correctly (and I will give all the reviewers the benefit of the doubt) and is manufactured/assembled appropriately with accurate instructions, this gate is awesome. It is secure, held up to lots of use for years, is as fairly good looking (for a gate) and is reasonably quiet. Of the 5 gates we have, this is the one that will continue to be up through our kiddo’s childhood.

Using the gate to block my 2 small dogs at the hallway that leads to our bedrooms. My husband was able to easily install, we are easily able to fit through the space and the bars are close enough together that our dogs dog get stuck. Other reviews on here are strange. The gate is excellent and exactly what we needed. No drill/wall damage either.

Baby Gate

Busylawyer - 6 months ago, Verified purchaser
Absolutely horrible quality! The gate was welded in one direction and the piece it fits into, was welded in the other direction. No way to bend it so the gate would meet the side, so it swings loosely. Complete waste of time and money. I got it for a dog, can’t even imagine if it was for a baby. Completely unsafe and useless.

I wouldn't use this for stair openings. The gate latch is on the top, and you push the button and slide it back to open the gate. I'm afraid our toddler will figure out how to open it. We're using it at the kitchen entrance. It fits a "regular" kitchen doorway, but it comes with extenders. The cabinet locks we bought aren't long enough to lock the cabinets, and this gate is helping to keep things safe.

We needed a gate quickly to keep our dogs downstairs, where we have hardwood floors. After some quick research, I chose this particular gate because it checked all the boxes: the larger parts are metal, it’s white, and it’s extra wide. I was initially concerned by other reviews mentioning that it wasn’t sturdy at the maximum width or that it didn’t close properly. Our stairs are 41 1/2 inches wide, and the gate fits snugly and feels very sturdy. Since our stairs are carpeted, that might help with stability. I chose not to use the included cups, which add extra stability, because I didn’t want to drill holes in the wall. However, the pressure mounts work perfectly for our needs. Do read the instructions on how to ensure the gap The gate has a push-button safety latch for opening and it locks into place when closing. One thing to note, my husband's shorts got caught on the latch and he had to readjust the gate. I'm not sure if this is due to having a slightly clumsy husband (he was also half asleep), but do keep an eye on that. Lastly, the installation was very easy. I was able to set it up quickly by myself—definitely a one-person job. I hope the pictures help!

Football mom - 7 months ago, Verified purchaser
The space I am blocking off is 36" wide. The box says 29-41.5" wide the gate will work for. The gate is too wide to fit that space of 36". The directions says the gap between the lock is normal and once you bend the gate and the tension will adjust for the door to lock. No it doesn't and back it goes. Why make something so simple so hard to install.

The point of a gate is???

Disappointed - 11 months ago, Verified purchaser
I followed the directions to the letter. Is it not the point of a gate to LATCH so that it will stay closed and keep whatever species of young beings in the home from getting into danger or trouble? How will this be accomplished if the latches do not reach? The whole thing, other than the bottom bar and hinge pegs, is held together by pressure once it is installed, but there is simply no closing this "gate." I like that each pressure pad works independently, which means this can be installed on uneven walls or level with baseboards, but if the gate cannot close and latch, there is absolutely no point, no gate, and NO protection for babies, toddlers, or puppies. This could have been a fairly brilliant concept, blown to you-know-what by shoddy choosing of parts in the factory.
