Q: Is this a steam vacuum ?

submitted by Winky - 5 years ago
  • A: No, the CrossWave doesn't steam. The BISSELL CrossWave is designed to vacuum and wash sealed hard floors and rugs simultaneously, eliminating the need to sweep then mop. For carpet, we'd still recommend a separate dry vacuum and deep cleaner. Hope this helps!

submitted byAskBISSELL - 1 year ago

  • A: Absolutely not, do not recommend this for a wet cleaning vacuum.

submitted byHilll - 3 months ago
  • A: Can it be used on carpet as well

submitted byMAR - 1 month ago

Q: Which on this crosswave has better power suction.

submitted by mcerra30 - 5 years ago
  • A: All of the CrossWave machines have great suction power!

  • A: Steer clear of the cordless model. I am on my 3rd one and It recently quit working! I never use them on carpet. Only on my tile. After a few uses it they no longer charged on the base. It leaves wet streaks everywhere and does not have good suction. The corded version is very good and has good suction.

submitted byNeelie - 3 years ago
  • A: I have a cordless one for about 2-3 years and I love it. I have used it on my entry area rugs with no issues at all.

Q: I've been using the Bissel solution however I want to know if we can use venigar water mixture or not? Anyone tried it ?

submitted by Livelove - 8 years ago
  • A: Good question however we do not recommend using vinegar as it could damage the machine.

submitted byAskBISSELL - 8 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: Hi, My wife has chemical sensitivity, but she is able to tolerate diluted white vinegar and water (typically 30% white vinegar to filtered water), which is normally very compatible with plastics and liquid seals. Can the mfr please comment specifically on what the strength of diluted white vinegar "might damage" the machine? Or is this as with many mfrs, a blanket statement meant primarily to discourage use of alternatives to Bissel's cleaning agent? Also, if diluted white vinegar is known *in fact* to be damaging, what about a mild odorless surfactant to avoid health risks associated with most scented cleaning formulas. Thanks in advance!

submitted byYouthWantsToKnow - 5 years ago
  • A: I used vinegar and water in mine and it ruined it. Tried to get it fixed, called all of the places they recommended and no one was helpful! Have since thrown it away and am considering buying another. 100% do not recommend using vinegar and water!

submitted byTaylor - 5 years ago

Q: Can other cleaning solutions be used in the water tank? Is this safe for laminate flooring?

submitted by MomTerryLady - 8 years ago
  • A: I am sure you could however I would use only use Bissell cleaning solution as other cleaners may be too bubbly or may damage flooring. It works on laminate as it leaves very little water.

submitted byKnowItAll - 8 years ago
  • A: Good question! This machine is safe for use on laminate flooring however we only recommend using BISSELL cleaning formulas in this machine.

Q: Is it made in the USA?

submitted by rupert - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Rupert. Thanks for asking! BISSELL is an international company so we manufacture, sell, and service our products in many countries. We currently manufacture in the US, Mexico, China, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Our headquarters is located in Grand Rapids, MI.

Q: I know this is safe to use on my luxury vinyl planks... but does the solution leave a residue on luxury vinyl after repeated use? I'm eager to give up my mop, but I'm hesitant to give up vinegar.

submitted by Matriarchofnerds - 3 years ago
  • A: When used as directed, you shouldn't have residue left on your floors.

submitted byAskBISSELL - 3 years ago

  • A: I'm the original question asker, and I decided to believe Bissell and buy one of these nifty machines. I have now used it 3 times on 1500 sq ft of luxury vinyl. My goodness, the Bissell cleaning solution cleans better than vinegar! No residue at all! Thank you, Bissell, for finally making a mopping solution that works on luxury vinyl! I'm impressed!

submitted byMatriarchofnerds - 3 years ago

Q: Hi, Does the solution/water come out hot?

submitted by littlemeangreene - 5 years ago
  • A: We recommend using warm water and BISSELL CrossWave formula in the machine. It does not have a heater built-in and using too hot of water can damage the machine.

Q: Can you use this on peel and stick vinyl flooring?

submitted by Britth929 - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes it is, Britth - this cleaner is safe for use on hard floors including vinyl.

submitted byAskBISSELL - 7 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: I don't see why not as it does a great job sucking up the solution so the floor is extremely dry. Much better than just mopping or swifter.

submitted byKnowItAll - 8 years ago

Q: I normally use unscented cleaning solutions - is your solution heavily scented? Any options?

submitted by idiopath - 8 years ago
  • A: No, I find it to be extremely subtle to not noticable. Certainly less than some method floor cleaners, mr clean, and pine sol.

submitted byKnowItAll - 8 years ago
  • A: Hi idiopath - there is a scent with our cleaning formulas. When using the CrossWave, we only recommend using BISSELL formulas as other chemicals or cleaners could affect the spray.

  • A: I don't see why not as it does a great job sucking up excess solution so the floor drys extremely quickly.

This stopped working after only a 3-4 uses. It stopped spraying solution. The worst part about this was that I had purchased the warranty Target offered through Allstate and they (and Bissell) gave me the runaround when I simply wanted to exchange the broken product for a new one.

Wanted to love it

Notacook - 27 days ago, Verified purchaser
I wanted to love it but my tile floors are just slightly uneven so it couldn’t make contact with all of the tiles and the solution would just pool up in the grout. It seems sturdy enough and I liked the design and ease of use, just make sure your floors are perfectly smooth/level before purchasing.

Like other reviews stated it does not get close enough to the edge of rugs or the walls. It’s loud and sometimes the machine sounds like the power kicked on & off. Also, if you have a large home and lots of hard wood floors or tiles, you will need to empty and refill the water a couple of time. I also had to run over some areas twice. It took longer than me just mopping with a regular bucket and a mop. Plus, when you done using the vacuum mop, you have another task of cleaning the machine itself. It is past my window to return it or else it would go back to the store. So bummed. Such a waste of $

Loud but exceptional cleaner

4 out of 5 stars
Thumbs up graphic, would recommend
Angela - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
There is only one reason why I rated it as a four and that is because it is so loud. I mean as loud as a full size carpet cleaner. Also there is not protection options like rubber bumpers to protect quarter rounds if you bump in to them. I accidentally bumped into mine on the corner and it damaged it. I will have to repair it. But with that said just be careful! So here’s the review and I hope you take the time to read this because a lot of there reviews on how it performs is from people who don’t actually know how to use floor cleaners like this properly. It cleans up the floor amazingly. It sucks up all crumbs and debris along edges of your wall. All you have to do it run it parallel to the wall, not towards it. I have four kids ranging from 2-16. So there’s 6 of us and the floors get crumbs and drinks spilt on it. It cleaned up all the spots. Even spots you’d have to scrub if you used a manual mop. A simple back and forth and leaving it spin on the spot for a couple seconds at a time took it all up. Now, for the reviews that said it soaked their floor and they had to dry it themselves, they were not informed on how to properly use these tries of equipment. You can not just vaccum widely with it and expect it to clean all the water. So you do as it says soak for ten second before use, hold the button in while going forward and then release when you pull back. You have to do this slowly and it will pick the water up. I went over my floors a couple times without the cleaning action button and my floors dried before I did the whole room. The vaccum part of this combo thing is amazing. It has a cord which means it will always be stronger and better than charging ones. It’s better and it’s cheaper. I cleaned my second floor of my house with just one fill of the tank with cleaner and water. (To ugly a little over 600sqft). The smell of the cleaner was very pleasant. I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t stink. I just got my floors installed about two months ago and this is the first time cleaning them and they came out looking brand new. Other miscellaneous things I want to point out. Unlike a mop where you push dirty water back and forth and then it dries and the mop is dirty no matter if you rinse it before next use, this this never has dirty water being used while cleaning, and when you are done it has a self cleaning option that actually worked. I have herniated discs in my neck, and this thing was weightless while using it. For the price, and portability, power, and Efficiency, not to mention ruin a try it can sit on when done and even a spot to put your brush to dry, it is definitely a good purchase. The benefits of this far exceed the cost of this.

Didn’t do the job it’s supposed to do! It doesn’t get close to the edges at all and basically just got the floor wet. I went back over the sections again with my swifter mop to see what was left over and it was COVERED with dirt! I was hoping this bissell would save me some time cleaning up our floors and it’s just a huge disappointment.

This vacuum is horrible! It clogs so easily. I’ve never had to thoroughly clean a vacuum every time I use it, and I’m not even talking about the filter. The water part only smells good the first use. And it gets dirty and leaves trails midway through. Even after taking it apart, washing and air drying everything, it smells. I wouldn’t recommend this to my enemy. It truly is the worst vacuum I’ve ever used.

AB - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
It used half a bottle of cleaner with each use. So every 2 times you use it you will have to purchase a bottle of cleaner. It had to be taken apart to be cleaned after each use. It didn’t seem to suck the dirty water very well. The floors were just wet afterwards. It is more of a glorified mop rather than a vacuum/mop. Not what I was looking for. I was hoping for a shop vac kind of suction to suck the water but it doesn’t have that kind of power. I spent more time setting it up, using it, and cleaning it than it would’ve taken to just mop.

I liked it a lot; it's easy to use and assemble, but cleaning is a hassle. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, stick with a regular mop. It's not ideal for people with long hair since it gets tangled in the brush, which I clean with a seam ripper. The entire cleaning process takes about an hour or two, which is disappointing because I wanted to love this vacuum. If that doesn't bother you, I'd recommend it—good suction, not too loud, and the mop works well, plus it includes a sample of their cleaning solution. It's also simple to reassemble like I said before.

This machine is noisy for a small machine, if you have grout it will not clean it much at all, it does not get close to the edges or get anything sticky on the floor. I do not think it is a labor saver since you have to get on the floor to clean the edges and grout. It did an ok job on the back hall. Too much money for so little help. Sorry I purchased it, I should have returned instead of exchanging it for another one that did not work any better.
