Q: Vac is not working on shag carpeting. Suction is so strong that red light comes on for the beater bar and vac will not move. Anyone else have this problem?

  • A: I have the same problem without shag carpeting. The beater bar just keeps stopping on carpet. The vac is brand new, right out of the box. I will be returning this. It seems like the beater motor isn't strong enough. Even my battery powered robot vac keeps its beater spinning on the same carpets.

  • A: Shark made the brush roll un-replaceable, even going so far as to make the base removal screws tamper-proof, thus ensuring that you'll need to replace the whole unit long before its useable life is over. Very disapppointing. My unit is only 5 years old and works great, but the brush roll is completely worn out.

    I’ve had this vacuum for 8 years before it crapped out! The only reason it stopped working is I accidentally vacuumed up one of my kid’s socks, and tried taking it apart to remove, and was unsuccessful. It still has suction, but it’s blocked. I looked in to replacing it with other brands and models, but I think I’m just going to stick with what I know! I also decided on it 8 years ago because the girl I used to clean houses with would only use these, nothing else!

    For some reason the vacuum continues to stop running when I'm vacuuming our higher pile carpeting. It works fine on the thin rugs and hardwood/ceramic, but in the area we need it the most (bedrooms), it will run for a few swipes and then the light turns red and it stops running. I can't figure out what the problem is... there are no blockages, I've taken the whole thing apart, no hair tangled... I'm unsure what the issue is but I may ultimately end up returning it as it essentially doesn't function.

    This is a great vacuum overall for floors but I’m giving it 3 stars because it lightweight and falls over constantly when using the hose attachments or when detach the base to use it on stairways. I considered returning it but it works better than my previous Dyson which also has it own issues.

    Better for hard floors than carpet. Did not pick up noticeable lint and hair from carpet. Be mindful of hitting the slider for the suction because it won't pick up much. Long hair will still tangle, no easy way to clean.

    This vacuum worked for about 8 months. Then the roller brush stopped fuctioning, making it useless for vacuuming rugs. While it should be covered by Shark's warranty, they do not answer the phone. I bought a 2-year extended warranty through Target on this item. They don't want to honor the warranty, as they feel Shark should cover it. Still waiting to hear if they will or not.

    Roller brush stopped working after less than one week!!! We’ve had an older shark vacuum for 7 years that finally bit the dust. The quality has obviously went down hill over the years. — Also, I’m now seeing TONS of bad reviews about the roller brush quitting after a short time. Those reviews were not there a week ago!     Had dyson for years and thought it was good untill I replaced it with the Shark Navigator. So much easir to use, sucks like nobodys business, also it seems like its not as loud as the dyson, canister lifts away so you can vacuum under furniture, on-board tools are good but a bit awkward to put back on. The hose is a bit short/tight and the canister sometimes tips over when using the wand but it still runs fine, thought it would stretch over time but I guess I'm not using it enough! haha Great vacuum, would buy it again.

    This vacuum served me well for years. I did a comparison at my home to measure if it picked up as much stuff as a much more expensive one, and it did. After tons of use, the cord needed to be replaced. That’s the only reason I donated it, hopefully someone handier than I am can fix it because it never changed in how well it vacuumed.

    After several uses I am so disappointed. While I like the better filtration system and larger dust cup, this model gets an F in other categories. Firstly, there is no soft fiber rotator bar to pick up fine dust on hard surfaces and if you allow the regular beater brush to run on hard floors it makes a terrible racket. Second, the rotator brush does not have the blades to cut long hair and fibers so they all wind around the brush head, AND (another design flaw) the rotator brush has to be accessed only with tools to unscrew the bottom plate! This and now the thing makes a bad noise with every back-and-forth when the brush bar is in the on position. Going back today!
