Great suction but a little cumbersome for senior citizens. Also, the vacuum won't fit under occasional tables; have to use an extension. The bare floor accessory won't fit under the lip of my sofa either.

This is my 5th or 6th Shark vacuum; 3 stars because the good things about the unit are really good; If you don't have need to vacuum any area rugs or stairs, this is an excellent choice. I purchased the unit 2 months ago & would return it if I could. FYI: I vacuum almost daily because I have a dog that sheds a lot & I am in good shape, so I generally don't get too concerned about the weight of a unit. The good: This vacuum has great suction and works fantastic on carpet; it sucks up dog food without pushing it around (huge plus!); it sucks up dirt going both forward and back (although back is still better) and the fact that it's converts to a wand vac is pretty awesome. The not so good: The unit is heavy, but I don't' find it overly prohibitive - except on stairs, even with lift away, it would be too much for folks with any sort of weakness. My 81 YO mom has trouble with this vacuum but not my other Shark vacuum. As for the really bad: If you have area rugs - DO NOT BUY this unit. Even adjusting the setting to decrease the suction doesn't help much; small area rugs are a big problem; the roller gets caught up and you need to turn off the unit & cycle it back on (after you get the rug out of the vacuum) to reset the roller portion of the vacuum. Larger area rugs are hit and miss (10x12 are mostly ok; long runners can also be problematic) The Detect technology is great in theory, but fails in practice. I have tried it several times; the suction cycles down with less dirt and up with more dirt (so the vacuum kind sounds like it's turning on and off, but it's not).The transitional spots almost always need to be vacuumed again because dirt gets missed as the speed changes. There is the option to just select the setting wanted and have it stay put, so I just do that but I am NOT a fan of the Detect technology. Overall, I wouldn't buy it again or any Shark with this type of technology.

Bought this vacuum a month ago. It does have great suction but I do not like that when you vacuum against a wall or furniture the motor kicks into high gear and is loud and then kicks off and repeats constantly. Its very annoying. Power cord is very stiff and when releasing handle to vacuum couch with the wand the vacuum tips over. Ive always liked my shark vacuums but not sure I care for this one.

Purchased this vacuum @ month ago to replace my Dyson D14 that was over 20 yrs old. Read reviews and researched and settled on this vacuum. Very pleased with my purchase. Cleans beautifully and I was so pleased. Amazed at the amount of pet hair it picked up. I have three rescue kitties and 1 Maine Coon. I was very pleased with the results. MY only reason for not giving 5 stars is the handle and cord placement. The cord placement on the side of the sweeper causes issues when vacuuming. I have to hold the cord in my left hand as I vacuum so it doesn't get in the way of the sweeper and get run over. The controls are located on the handle and are easy to operate, however they are very sensitive to touch and if your hand moves slightly on the handle, you will change the cleaning mode. Also, I feel that the handle is slightly rough and can rub your thumb when vacuum. A whole house vacuum and my thumb is rubbed and irritated. But the quality of the clean overshadows these irritants to me.

I have had my shark powerdetect up right vaccum for about 3 months now and I absolutely love it. Best vaccum ever. I purchased it In the duo package deal and am very pleased with everything. I was already a big shark/ninja fan before I purchased this vaccum and like everyone of my shark purchases I am very happy and I highly recommend this vaccum.

The cord is super stiff and kinks really easily and once it kinks its impossible to straighten it back out leaving a mess when trying to wrap the cord up. It also does not pick up the smallest of crumbs. The attachments are terrible and it's impossible to get a good vacuum on the steps. I had the Shark Vertex before this and that one was way better. Will be returning this.

Purchased this vacuum in august. Vacuum was great and now no longer turns on.

I purchased this machine for the ease of use after watching several video`s of the unit in use. I have owned Dyson`s for a long time, mostly the animal model, the last ones were the Ball units. They are great but have limits, like getting under furniture and reaching ceilings and corners behind furniture. You would have to buy the stick unit. Even thought the have a long detachable hose anyone that has or owned one knows when the vacuum is on you can not strech that to full lenght without putting the power unit against something.This unit is great with the detachable power unit I can get under beds and furniture easily and ceilings and corners. Some have complained about the weight and when the power unit is removed the roller section pulls forward to easily, that is a plus in my opinion. Also I have an adapter that allows this machine to use attachments from my Dyson. I originally was going to use both machines depending on the situation, but found I primarily use this unit. Would recommend to anyone.

This vacuum is the worst vacuum i have ever brought. Purchased in November and only worked for 2 months prior to it not functioning properly. The power detect is extremely annoying and has always just randomly switched functions during use. I cant even use the vacuum as an upright vacuum anymore for more then a few minutes prior to it switching into wand mode and not having the ability for it to switch back. Do not get.

Fantastic vacuum! Tons of power. Love the auto detect feature. Cord is extra long. Assuming it lasts a long long time this vacuum is worth the price of admission.

Our dirt detector light goes out while I’m uses it. I have to turn it off and then it comes back on. I called about it but never really got an answer

I bought this vacuum - wasn't given one to review. I hate it. When you are done vacuuming a room you will feel like you spent an hour at the gym. I gave up trying to vacuum a rug, even at the proper setting it will suck up the rug and jam the unit. I gave up using the detect setting and just use the low pile carpet setting. The speed up, slow down over and over gets annoying in the detect mode. My old shark picks up more hair from our 4 dogs and 2 cats than the new one and have had shark vacuums for many years

First, I want to say how much I love Shark products, as I have owned 6 Shark vacuums, but this PowerDetect is NOT one that I love. Let me give you some Pros and Cons. *Pros: Powerful! It will suck the teeth out of your grandpa's mouth from 100 feet away LOL. Attachments are a monumental improvement over the last few Sharks I have bought. Larger dust bin is awesome with 2 Golden Retrievers and 2 Labs in the house. Long electrical cord is always the best from Shark. This is a power lift away, meaning most mechanically driven attachments from previous Sharks will fit. I will always love my mechanically driven pet brush that came with my Shark Apex model and was super happy it worked with this PowerDetect. *Cons: Too powerful! It ruined 2 rugs during a 2-day trial period. The stronger power is NOT good for washable rugs. I had to use high pile setting, but felt it did not work as well. AutoDetect was not good in my house, due to rug runners throughout. AutoDetect is not quick enough to detect scatter rugs and will eat them, then shut off. Because it can't switch to new surfaces fast enough, the rollers would stop and required shutoff and restart. I had to shutdown and restart no less than 20 times in 1 day. Super aggravating and time consuming. Each time the vac is restarted, you must manually reselect hard floor, low pile, or high pile, as it automatically goes back to autodetect. I could not vac dog beds with this model, as I have done with my Shark Apex. The rollers stopped and I had to restart. I tried my Shark mechanical pet brush on my washable rugs, and it worked like a charm. HOWEVER, I'm not willing to vacuum my entire downstairs (1k sq ft) with a 4 inch wide vacuum. ;-) I did not experience the edge PowerDetect like the videos show. It still left some dirt/dog hair that the hose picked up later. I am returning this model. I must find a new dust bin for my Shark Apex model. We will wait for the next model to come out and will try again, as I said before I absolutely love Shark products.

After putting the vacuum together, I was anxious to try it. I rolled a short distance back and forth just twice on the area rug in the living room and my husband thought we had received a used vacuum, "where did ALL of that come from?!" when he glanced at the canister. I was skeptical about paying up for a new vacuum, but I'm happy we did. The no-wrap roller was my primary selling feature with 4 long haired females in the house and it truly works without wrapping. It's easy to maneuver and I also love the ability to vacuum under furniture, especially under the couches. On hard wood, it doesn't blow dust and hair-bunnies in all directions, it just sucks them up instead. It's less quiet when it runs full Power Detect, but it's still the most quiet vacuum we've ever owned.

Ive had this vacuum almost two weeks now and let me say WOW! This thing sucks, in a good way. Like better than any vacuum I've had before. The only complaint I have is that it sucks a little too hard for thin rugs and makes it stop, and I have no thick rugs to test on those unfortunately. But I do also have vinyl, hardwood, tile and carpet and it works SUPERB on those surfaces. (I have 3 cats and 2 dogs plus a 12 year old and a plumber husband for reference).... My last vacuum rhymes with thistle, for example, in my son's room and at most I only ever got 2 canisters full. This thing sucked so much I got like 6 canisters full. Like I never attempted to vacuum in the 3 years we've lived here. The oder thing smells nice too makes everything smell and feel fresh. You can literally tell the difference. Filters are seay to clean. Tools are easy to use. The functionality. Oh my word, the functionaluty of the vacuum is beyond compare, even my 12 year old kid is impressed with it. So many different options and ways to use (especially the way the lift away design is to also make it almost like a stick vacuum, it would make it just a bit better if the hose were slightly longer. The light feature when you use the want is an amazing touch as well. This was super thought about with detail. Oh also my last bother is the little hold back thing for the cord at the top where you wrap it up doesn't stay locked in place the best. Overall the 3 things that I have found con wise for this vacuum are outrageously outweighed by the pros of it,100/10 recommends seriously!!

Too heavy to push. Don't detect change from carpet to floor. Doesn't pick up everything from carpet.
